College Park Robotics Teams Donate Bedding to Support Foster Youth in Conroe
THE WOODLANDS – College Park High School’s robotics teams, Team 6680, known as "The Green Machine," and Team 7494, "The Green Gears," recently extended their outreach beyond the competition arena, making a significant community contribution. On April 1, the teams delivered 30 brand new bedding sets to Angel Reach, a local nonprofit organization based in Conroe.
The substantial donation included complete bedding sets, comprising comforters, sheets, and pillows. These essential items are earmarked for young people transitioning out of the foster care system, offering them comfort and dignity as they establish new living arrangements. Many of these young individuals find housing through vital partners such as Texas Youth Ranches, and a fresh, personal bedding set can play a crucial role in transforming a new space into a welcoming home.
Angel Reach is dedicated to helping youth build stable, supportive lives, providing resources and guidance to those who have aged out of foster care. Basic necessities like new bedding are fundamental to this mission, offering a sense of ownership and personal space to individuals who often face significant challenges.
The student teams were driven by the core values of the FIRST Robotics Challenge, which strongly emphasize "Gracious Professionalism" and a deep commitment to giving back to the community. Their initiative reflects a broader understanding that their skills and teamwork extend beyond engineering challenges to address real-world needs.
"Participating in FIRST Robotics teaches us more than just building robots; it instills in us the importance of community service and empathy," said a representative from the College Park robotics program. "Seeing the direct impact of our efforts on young people who need a fresh start is incredibly rewarding and truly embodies the spirit of Gracious Professionalism."
