Parolee Harris Gets 50 Years for Drug Murder

A Spring man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the 2021 murder of Brandon Tyrone Ford. Michael Dewayne Harris, 26, received the sentence on April 10, 2024, in the 435th District Court in Montgomery County, with Judge Laura Dreamer presiding.

The conviction stems from the fatal shooting of Ford on November 13, 2021. Harris, who was 23 at the time, shot Ford multiple times during an argument at the Springwood Trails Apartments, located at 24650 Interstate 45 North in Spring, Texas. Prosecutors linked the dispute to a "narcotics distribution scheme." Ford, then 35 years old, died at the scene from his injuries.

Evidence presented during the trial highlighted Harris's extensive criminal history. At the time of Ford's murder, Harris was out on parole for a prior burglary conviction. His record also included convictions from 2020 for felony possession of marijuana and delivery of a controlled substance.

Due to the nature of this murder, which falls under Texas's 3g offense guidelines, Michael Dewayne Harris will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least 25 years of his 50-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Sandel handled the prosecution for the State of Texas, and Detective Joe Antu with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit served as the lead investigator on the case.
