David Vinson Takes Helm as Conroe ISD Superintendent

David Vinson officially began his tenure as Superintendent of Conroe Independent School District on Monday, October 7, 2024, taking the helm of one of Texas’s largest and most rapidly expanding school systems.

Vinson brings extensive experience to Conroe ISD, having served eight years as Superintendent of Sulphur Springs ISD. His career in education spans various roles, beginning as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal, with previous assignments at Forney ISD and Rockwall ISD.

Conroe ISD encompasses approximately 348 square miles, serving over 72,000 students across 70 campuses. The district operates with a substantial budget, projected at $653 million for the 2024-25 school year, and employs around 9,000 individuals. As one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas, CISD faces unique opportunities and challenges under its new leadership.

Vinson has articulated his immediate focus on listening, learning, and cultivating strong relationships with all stakeholders – students, staff, and the wider community. He aims to uphold the district’s distinguished reputation for excellence while ensuring every student’s success and well-being remain paramount. Key challenges Vinson plans to address include managing the district’s rapid growth, overseeing budget allocations, and prioritizing school safety across all campuses.

A native of Nacogdoches, Vinson is married to Kristy and has two daughters, one attending college and the other in high school. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he enjoys outdoor activities such as golf and fishing. A passionate sports fan, he names baseball as his favorite sport to watch.
