**Journey to the Revolution: Conroe Central Library Offers Free Workshop on Tracing Patriot Ancestors**

CONROE, TX – Residents eager to uncover their family’s connection to America’s founding can embark on a historical journey this Saturday, February 17th, at the Conroe Central Library. A free genealogy workshop, designed to guide attendees in tracing their American Revolution ancestors, will run from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This illuminating session is part of the Montgomery County Genealogical Society’s popular monthly series, presented in collaboration with the Montgomery County Memorial Library System. The program aims to equip participants with practical methods for identifying ancestors who played a role in the Revolutionary War, whether through direct military service or crucial support to the cause.

The workshop will delve into a wealth of historical records, providing a roadmap for discovery. Attendees will learn to navigate military documents, census data, tax lists, deeds, wills, pension applications, and bounty land records. The scope of research extends beyond soldiers to include ancestors involved in the Continental Army, various state militias, privateers, spies, civil servants, and even those who provided essential goods and supplies to the war effort. This comprehensive approach ensures that many different forms of patriotic service can be uncovered.

Beyond document exploration, the program will highlight key resources vital to genealogical research. Attendees will gain insights into applications for esteemed lineage societies like the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). Popular online genealogical platforms such as Fold3, Ancestry.com, and FamilySearch will also be explored, offering valuable tools for remote research.

Leading the workshop is J. Mark Lowe, a highly respected professional genealogist from Tennessee. Lowe brings extensive expertise to the session, having previously served as president of the Federation of Genealogical Societies and vice president of the Genealogical Speakers Guild. He is also the author of “The Student’s Guide to Tracing Your Ancestors,” making him a well-regarded authority in the field.

The Conroe Central Library is located at 104 I-45 North. The event is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to connect with American history on a deeply personal level.

For those interested in continuing their genealogical pursuits, the Montgomery County Genealogical Society’s next session in this informative series is scheduled for March 16th.
