**CONROE, TX – April 10, 2024** – Lone Star College-Montgomery is set to transform its campus into a vibrant hub of creativity and intellect next week, hosting its second annual Maverick Arts & Academia Festival on **Thursday, April 18, 2024**. From **10 a.m. to 2 p.m.**, students, faculty, and community members are invited to immerse themselves in a diverse showcase of student accomplishments, with the main stage activities centered in the **Performing Arts Center (Building D)**.

The festival serves as a dynamic platform for LSC-Montgomery students to present their exceptional creative and academic endeavors, spotlighting pieces from the college’s own *Maverick* literary and arts journal. Attendees can expect captivating readings of student poetry, short stories, and essays, alongside stunning displays of student photography and visual art. Beyond the creative arts, the event will feature insightful student-led academic presentations spanning a wide array of disciplines, including psychology, history, English, and philosophy.

Dr. Stephen Brown, an English professor and advisor for the esteemed *Maverick* journal, expressed his enthusiasm for the event. “This festival is a crucial opportunity to really spotlight student voices and celebrate all the amazing things our students and faculty are doing,” Dr. Brown stated, emphasizing the breadth and depth of talent cultivated at the college.

Adding to the lively atmosphere, the festival will host a variety of live performances by LSC-Montgomery’s talented student bands, choir, and chamber orchestra. For those looking for a hands-on experience, interactive workshops will be available, covering everything from the art of haiku poetry and painting techniques to songwriting and improvisational theatre. These sessions offer a unique chance for attendees to engage directly with various artistic and academic forms.

Dr. Hannah Bush, Associate Dean of Arts & Humanities, highlighted the festival’s significance for student development. “The Maverick Arts & Academia Festival is a place where students can showcase their research, creative works, and talents, highlighting their dedication and passion outside of the classroom,” Dr. Bush explained. Melissa McAnally, co-chair of the event, echoed this sentiment, adding, “It’s a fun, interactive way for students and the wider community to engage with the creative and academic work happening on campus, fostering a deeper connection with the intellectual and artistic spirit of LSC-Montgomery.”

The festival is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity for local residents to experience the academic and artistic excellence fostered at Lone Star College-Montgomery. Ample parking will be available on campus.

For students inspired by the showcased works and considering contributing to a future issue of the *Maverick* journal, submissions are typically due annually on February 29.
