Metcalf Family Honored by MCCF for Legacy of Giving

**Metcalf Family Named Inaugural MCCF ‘Family of the Year’ for Decades of Philanthropy**

MONTGOMERY, Texas – The Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF) is set to honor the Metcalf family as its first-ever ‘Family of the Year,’ celebrating their profound and multi-generational dedication to philanthropy and community service across Montgomery County. The inaugural ‘Family of the Year’ Gala will take place on **Saturday, October 19, 2024**, at the Margaritaville Lake Resort in Montgomery, Texas.

This prestigious recognition underscores the Metcalf family’s deep roots and unwavering commitment to strengthening the local community, a legacy spanning over five decades.

The family’s story in Montgomery County began in **1968** when Frank Metcalf moved to Conroe. He and his late wife, Dorothy Metcalf, quickly became pillars of the community. Dorothy was a founding member of the Conroe Service League, an organization that has since evolved into the Junior League of The Woodlands, making a significant impact on women’s leadership and community development.

Frank Metcalf, a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War era and former CEO of a family petroleum transportation company, dedicated years to public service. He served on the Conroe ISD school board during the **1970s**, contributed his expertise to the Conroe City Council, and led the Conroe-Lake Conroe Area Chamber of Commerce as its president. Together, Frank and Dorothy were instrumental in supporting numerous vital organizations, including the Montgomery County United Way, the Salvation Army, Montgomery County Youth Services, and the Assistance League. Frank continues his active involvement, holding a longstanding tenure on the board of MCCF.

“The Metcalf family truly embodies the spirit of selfless service that we champion at the Montgomery County Community Foundation,” said Julie Martineau, President and CEO of MCCF. “Their impact has been felt across every facet of our community, from education and social services to nurturing future leaders. It is an honor to recognize such a remarkable legacy with our inaugural ‘Family of the Year’ award.”

The family’s tradition of giving has been passionately continued by their daughter, Carol Metcalf-Bixby, along with her husband Greg Bixby and children Sarah and Kyle Metcalf-Bixby. Carol has mirrored her parents’ dedication, serving as board chair for MCCF and contributing to the success of numerous other local non-profits, including the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations and Children’s Safe Harbor. In a lasting tribute to Dorothy’s memory, the family established a scholarship fund through MCCF, ensuring that her legacy of support continues to benefit students for generations to come.

“Our parents instilled in us the importance of giving back and making a positive difference in the place we call home,” Carol Metcalf-Bixby commented. “This recognition is truly a testament to their vision and the collective efforts of so many who work tirelessly to build a stronger Montgomery County. We are deeply honored.”

The Montgomery County Community Foundation, under the leadership of Julie Martineau, serves as a vital resource, connecting donors with meaningful causes to strengthen the county. Since its inception, MCCF has facilitated over $15 million in grants and scholarships, addressing a wide range of local needs, from educational opportunities to critical social services.
