**San Jacinto County Man Convicted in Brutal Murder of 11-Year-Old John Anthony Hernandez**

SAN JACINTO COUNTY, TX – Robert Anthony Garza was convicted on Thursday, October 26, 2017, in San Jacinto County, for the horrific 2014 murder, aggravated sexual assault, and tampering with evidence related to the death of 11-year-old John Anthony Hernandez. The verdict brings a measure of justice to a community still reeling from the shocking crime that unfolded nearly three years ago.

The conviction follows a lengthy investigation and trial stemming from the tragic incident in November 2014. Hernandez, then just a child, was walking home in Cleveland, Texas, when he was kidnapped by Garza. At the time of the abduction, Garza was living with the boy’s mother, Samantha Flores.

Prosecutors in the San Jacinto County District Attorney’s office presented a harrowing account of the events. Evidence showed Garza sexually assaulted the 11-year-old, then murdered him. In a calculated and desperate attempt to conceal the heinous crimes, Garza subsequently burned the boy’s body and a vehicle.

Assistant District Attorneys Joe Filer and Nathan Hill prosecuted the case, meticulously building the evidence that led to the jury’s guilty verdict. The San Jacinto County jury deliberated before returning their decision, finding Garza responsible for the three grave charges.

Garza now faces a mandatory life sentence in prison, a consequence reflecting the extreme brutality and depravity of his actions. His formal sentencing is scheduled for November 13, 2017, where the judge will formally impose the life term.

The devastating case not only led to Garza’s conviction but also involved John Anthony’s mother, Samantha Flores. Flores faced her own charges connected to this intricate and heartbreaking investigation, underscoring the wide-reaching impact and complexities of the case on all involved. Details of her separate legal proceedings have been reported previously.

The murder of John Anthony Hernandez sent shockwaves through the Cleveland and broader San Jacinto County communities when it first occurred, highlighting the vulnerability of children and the severe consequences of such violent acts. The conviction of Robert Anthony Garza marks a critical step towards accountability and justice for the young victim and his grieving family.
