Conroe Teen Hosts Suicide Prevention Benefit

Conroe, TX – Conroe’s own Nashville recording artist, Payton Riley, is bringing her powerful voice and passion for mental health advocacy home this Sunday, October 22, for her second annual benefit concert. Hosted at Southern Star Brewing Company, located at 3525 North Frazier Street, the event aims to raise crucial funds and awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a cause deeply personal to the 18-year-old artist.

The concert, running from 1 to 5 p.m., serves as a poignant tribute to Payton’s younger sister, Presley Riley, who tragically passed away by suicide on June 13, 2021, at just 16 years old. This year’s initiative holds particular significance, taking place just a day after what would have been Presley’s 18th birthday on October 21.

“I want to do anything I can to bring awareness to suicide prevention and mental health,” Payton emphasizes, reflecting on her profound motivation.

Attendees can expect a fantastic afternoon filled with live music at the beloved local venue. The stage will feature a diverse lineup of musical talent, including Payton herself, her brother Jordan Riley, Payton Marie, Cooper Wade, David Deanda Jr., and Clay Melton, showcasing a blend of local Texas artists and fellow Nashville performers. Beyond the melodies, various food trucks will be on site, ensuring a delightful culinary experience for all.

A significant highlight of the event will be an impressive silent auction and raffle. Generous offerings include highly sought-after items such as signed guitars, coveted sports memorabilia, enticing vacation packages, and gift certificates from local restaurants, providing numerous opportunities for attendees to support the cause.

While admission to the concert is free, the overarching goal is substantial: to raise $25,000 for AFSP. Building on the remarkable success of last year’s inaugural event, which pulled in $15,000, organizers are optimistic about exceeding this year’s target and making an even greater impact.

Funds generated from the concert will directly support AFSP’s vital work in several key areas: pioneering research, developing and implementing educational programs, advocating for sound public policy, and offering crucial support to those who have lost loved ones to suicide – an issue that, nationally, stands as the 12th leading cause of death in the U.S.

Payton frequently dedicates her heartfelt song “Love Can Be” to Presley, and also performs “When the Grass Grows Over Me,” using her music as a powerful and emotive vehicle to honor her sister’s memory and further the urgent conversation around mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Community members are strongly encouraged to attend this meaningful event, enjoy the entertainment, and contribute to a cause that impacts countless lives. For those unable to attend but wishing to make a donation, more information will be available at the event, or by visiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s website at afsp.org.
