Conroe Safe Harbor Expands to Meet Rising Needs

**Children’s Safe Harbor Unveils State-of-the-Art Facility, Dramatically Expanding Support for Child Victims in Conroe**

**Conroe, TX – May 23, 2024** – The Children’s Safe Harbor, a critical regional resource for child victims of abuse and neglect, officially opened the doors to its vastly expanded, brand-new facility on May 17, 2024. Located at 1515 N. Frazier Street in Conroe, the move marks a pivotal moment for the organization, designed to significantly enhance its capacity to serve the escalating needs of child victims across Montgomery, San Jacinto, and Madison Counties. Children began receiving services in the new building just days later, on May 20.

This monumental expansion represents more than just a change of address; it’s a strategic leap forward. The new building boasts an impressive 22,000 square feet, a substantial increase from their previous 6,500 square foot space at 1506 N. Thompson Street. This additional room directly translates into more comprehensive and compassionate care for children and their families.

Crucially, the new facility features seven forensic interview rooms, a significant jump from the previous three, enabling more children to share their stories in a supportive environment. It also houses seven therapy rooms, likewise an increase from three, providing expanded access to vital mental health services. A dedicated, state-of-the-art medical exam room ensures that all necessary medical assessments can be conducted on-site, minimizing further trauma for young victims. This integrated setup is a game-changer, designed to provide a more comforting, efficient, and child-friendly experience during what can be incredibly difficult times.

“This new facility empowers us to truly give children back their voice in an environment designed for their comfort and healing,” stated Dr. Victoria Constance, who has served as CEO of Children’s Safe Harbor since 2004. “Every square foot, every new room, is a testament to our community’s commitment to protecting our most vulnerable. We can now offer these crucial services to more children, more efficiently, and with even greater care.”

The increased space means the organization can nearly double its capacity, moving from serving roughly 1,000 to 1,200 children annually to an impressive target of 2,000 young victims each year. The necessity for this expansion is stark and data-driven: Montgomery County alone has experienced a 27% population increase since 2010, directly correlating to a rise in the need for these vital services. In 2023, Children’s Safe Harbor provided services to 1,185 children, underscoring the strain on their previous, smaller facility and the immediate demand for expanded operations.

The ambitious $15 million project was brought to fruition through a dedicated capital campaign that launched in 2020. This extensive fundraising effort garnered strong support from both private donors, including notable contributions from The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, and numerous community grants. The successful campaign reflects a widespread understanding of the critical role Children’s Safe Harbor plays in the region.

“The opening of this new Children’s Safe Harbor facility is a beacon of hope for our entire region,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon. “Child abuse investigations require a sensitive, coordinated approach, and this expanded center provides the ideal environment for children to be heard and for justice to be pursued. It’s an invaluable asset for law enforcement, Child Protective Services, and the District Attorney’s office, strengthening our collaborative efforts to protect children.”

Since its founding in 1998, Children’s Safe Harbor has provided services to over 23,000 children, collaborating closely with law enforcement, Child Protective Services, and the District Attorney’s office. This multi-disciplinary team approach ensures that abused and neglected children receive comprehensive care, support, and advocacy throughout the investigative and healing processes.

The new facility at 1515 N. Frazier Street truly represents a significant, long-term investment in the well-being of the region’s most vulnerable population, promising a brighter and safer future for thousands of children.
