Woodlands Garden Club Celebrates, Plans 2026 Event

**The Woodlands Garden Club Celebrates Season, Installs New Leadership, Prepares for Major 2026 Regional Event**

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Garden Club marked the successful conclusion of its season with an End-of-Season Celebration on May 20, 2024, held at the Northgate Country Club. The event drew over 100 members, who gathered to reflect on a year of civic engagement and horticultural passion, and to welcome new leadership.

A central highlight of the evening was the formal installation of the club’s new Board of Directors. Mary Ann Piacentini officially assumed the role of President, taking the helm from outgoing President Bobbie Jo Miller. Both leaders expressed enthusiasm for the club’s ongoing mission to foster an interest in gardening, promote sound horticultural practices, and enhance the beauty of the local community.

The celebration also featured acclaimed author Kathy C. S. Johnson as the distinguished guest speaker. Johnson, known for her popular publication “A Texas Gardener’s View,” shared insights and inspiration, undoubtedly reinforcing the members’ dedication to gardening and local flora.

The Woodlands Garden Club’s commitment to civic beauty is evident through its numerous hands-on projects. Members are regularly involved in planting and meticulous maintenance of the vibrant rose garden located at The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation’s Northshore Park, contributing significantly to the park’s aesthetic appeal. Further demonstrating their dedication, a dedicated group of volunteers commits Tuesday mornings to assisting at the renowned Mercer Botanic Gardens in Spring, TX, supporting its conservation and educational efforts.

Beyond their direct labor, the club extends vital financial support to several key local organizations. These beneficiaries include The Montgomery County Food Bank in Conroe, TX, which addresses food insecurity; the Montgomery County Master Gardeners Association, fostering horticultural education; and Montgomery County Youth Services, dedicated to supporting local youth.

Investing in the future of horticulture, The Woodlands Garden Club also proudly funds scholarships for students pursuing horticultural studies at Lone Star College, benefiting campuses in both The Woodlands and Conroe. This initiative helps cultivate the next generation of gardening and landscaping professionals.

Looking ahead, the club’s next official meeting is scheduled for September 9, 2024, at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, where members will reconvene to plan upcoming activities and projects.

However, a significant undertaking is already well underway for April 2026, when The Woodlands Garden Club will host the Garden Clubs of America (GCA) Zone IX meeting. This prestigious three-day event is anticipated to welcome approximately 150 garden club members from across a wide region encompassing Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Hosting the GCA Zone IX meeting is a testament to The Woodlands Garden Club’s prominence and dedication, providing a unique opportunity to showcase The Woodlands’ natural beauty and horticultural achievements to a regional audience.
