Frontier Expands IAH Latin America Routes

**Frontier Airlines Expands International Reach with Three New Nonstop Routes from Houston IAH**

Houston, TX – Frontier Airlines is significantly boosting Houston’s international travel options, announcing three new nonstop routes from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to key Latin American destinations: Mexico City, San Salvador, and Santo Domingo. This expansion underscores IAH’s growing role as a crucial gateway to the Americas and offers Houstonians more ultra-low-cost options for leisure and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel.

Starting May 16, 2024, travelers can fly direct to Mexico City (MEX), Mexico, with daily service, connecting Houston to the vibrant cultural and economic capital. San Salvador (SAL), El Salvador, a destination with a significant diaspora in the Houston area, will see service four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, also commencing May 16.

The third new route kicks off a day later, on May 17, 2024, connecting IAH to Santo Domingo (SDQ), Dominican Republic, three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This provides a direct link to the Caribbean nation’s historical capital and popular resorts.

To celebrate these additions, Frontier is running a “Splash Sale,” offering introductory one-way fares as low as $69 for these new routes. These promotional prices are available for purchase through January 24, 2024, for travel completed by June 26, 2024. Travelers should note that blackout dates apply from May 23-27.

Daniel Shurz, Frontier’s senior vice president of commercial, emphasized the airline’s commitment to providing affordable travel options for Houstonians. “Houston is a key market for Frontier, and we’re excited to expand our international footprint here, connecting more travelers to popular destinations with our commitment to affordable airfare. These new routes cater to both leisure travelers and the significant VFR market in Houston seeking accessible travel options,” Shurz stated.

Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports, highlighted IAH’s continued growth as an international gateway. “IAH continues its impressive growth as an international gateway. Frontier’s investment in these new routes not only expands our network but also reinforces Houston’s economic ties and cultural connections with Latin America, providing more choices and competitive pricing for our passengers,” Szczesniak commented.

Frontier’s business model as an Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier (ULCC) means travelers can expect a base fare and then customize their experience with optional add-ons for baggage, seat selection, and other services. This approach makes travel more accessible for budget-conscious passengers, often utilizing modern Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport serves as a critical hub, especially for travel to Latin America, due to its strategic location and diverse population. The addition of these routes complements existing services from IAH to these regions, intensifying competition and potentially lowering prices for consumers across the board. The ongoing IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program also aims to enhance the passenger experience and capacity, supporting such expansions.

Mexico City is a bustling metropolis, offering rich history, world-class cuisine, and significant business opportunities. San Salvador is a vital link for the large Salvadoran community residing in and around Houston, facilitating family visits. Santo Domingo, the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the Americas, is a growing tourist destination known for its colonial zone, vibrant culture, and Caribbean beaches.

The expansion is expected to bring economic benefits to the Houston region through increased tourism, business travel, and direct and indirect job creation at the airport and related industries. It also strengthens Houston’s position as a major player in international trade and cultural exchange.

Travelers interested in these new routes can find more information and book flights directly on Frontier Airlines’ website, FlyFrontier.com. It is always advisable for international travelers to verify passport requirements and any necessary visas for their destination well in advance of their travel dates.
