The journey began right here in Beaumont, at 3000 Phelan Boulevard, when Joe Tortorice Jr. teamed up with his father, Joe Tortorice Sr., along with Pete Pacetti and Rusty Coco. Their vision was simple yet revolutionary for its time: offer fresh, high-quality food with an emphasis on customer satisfaction. While the food industry in the 1970s was largely dominated by traditional fast-food offerings, Jason’s Deli quietly set a new standard for what a quick-service restaurant could be.

“From day one, the focus wasn’t just on serving great food, but on serving *good* food – food we’d be proud to serve our own families,” stated Joe Tortorice III, grandson of the founder and current CEO, reflecting on the company’s enduring philosophy. “That commitment to wholesome ingredients was baked into our DNA long before it became a popular buzzword.”

Indeed, Jason’s Deli distinguished itself early on through its pioneering approach to ingredient integrity. In 2005, it became the first large restaurant chain to completely ban artificial trans fats, a move that predated federal mandates by a decade. This commitment continued with the removal of high-fructose corn syrup in 2008 and monosodium glutamate (MSG) in 2010, firmly establishing the brand as a leader in the “clean eating” movement.
