## Montgomery Mourns Council Member Tom Czulewicz, Designates January 13th “Tom Czulewicz Day”

**MONTGOMERY, TX –** The City of Montgomery is mourning the loss of Council Member Tom Czulewicz, who passed away on January 13, 2026, just one day before the City Council convened to honor his profound dedication to the community. At their meeting on January 14, the Montgomery City Council unanimously approved a proclamation designating January 13th as “Tom Czulewicz Day” in perpetuity, recognizing his instrumental service and enduring legacy.

Mr. Czulewicz, elected to Council Member Place 5 in May 2023, quickly became a cornerstone of the Montgomery community. His untimely passing leaves a significant void in the city’s leadership and in the hearts of those who worked alongside him.

His wife, Jan Czulewicz, was present at the January 14th meeting to accept the heartfelt proclamation. Visibly moved, she reflected on her late husband’s unwavering commitment. “Tom genuinely loved Montgomery,” she shared, her voice thick with emotion. “He poured his heart and soul into making it a better place for everyone. This city meant everything to him, and he would be so incredibly honored by this recognition.”

Mayor Sarah Jenkins delivered a eulogy highlighting Czulewicz’s tireless efforts. “Tom was more than just a council member; he was a true civic servant and a beloved friend to many,” Mayor Jenkins stated. “His vision for a vibrant, beautiful Montgomery was infectious, and his dedication to tangible improvements touched every corner of our city. His contributions, though spanning a short time, will have a lasting impact for generations to come.”

Beyond his duties on the City Council, Czulewicz was deeply embedded in various critical city functions. He actively served on the Board of Adjustments, ensuring fair application of zoning ordinances, and was a key member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, where he played a crucial role in shaping the city’s future growth and development. His passion for the city’s green spaces shone through his involvement with the Parks Board, advocating for recreational areas and community well-being. He also contributed significantly to the Community Development Corporation, which focuses on enhancing the economic vitality and quality of life within Montgomery.

A particular passion for Czulewicz was the “Keep Montgomery Beautiful” initiative. He was a driving force behind efforts to enhance the city’s green spaces, promote sustainable practices, and improve overall aesthetics, often spearheading community clean-up events and advocating for tree planting programs. His vision aimed to ensure Montgomery remained a picturesque and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

During his tenure on the council, Czulewicz was instrumental in two pivotal projects: the development of the city’s comprehensive parks master plan, laying out a strategic roadmap for future park development and recreation facilities, and the crucial work of updating various city ordinances. His methodical approach to these ordinance updates helped modernize city governance, ensuring clarity and efficiency in local regulations.

The passing of Council Member Czulewicz has sent ripples of sadness throughout the Montgomery community. Residents and colleagues remember him as a thoughtful leader, a passionate advocate, and a kind individual who always put the city’s best interests first. The designation of “Tom Czulewicz Day” on January 13th will serve as an annual reminder of his dedicated service and profound love for the City of Montgomery.
