JP Davis evades DWI questions at campaign event

**Justice of the Peace Mike Davis Addresses DWI Arrest Accusations Amid Re-election Bid**

**CONROE, TX** – Justice of the Peace Mike Davis, who presides over Conroe’s Precinct 1, Place 1, faced scrutiny regarding his recent Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) arrest during a campaign event on Monday, January 29th, largely sidestepping direct questions about the charge as he rallied support for his re-election.

The incident in question occurred on November 21, 2023, when Davis, 63, was pulled over by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper Joshua Allen. The stop took place on FM 1097 near Cude Cemetery Road in Montgomery County. According to official reports, Davis’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was recorded at 0.151, nearly double the legal limit of 0.08. He was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe at the time.

Following his arrest, Davis was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He is reportedly being represented by attorney Stephen Jackson. The case is currently pending in Montgomery County courts.

At the Monday campaign event, held at American Legion Post 618 in Willis, Davis addressed a crowd of supporters. While he spoke about his commitment to “fighting for our families and our children,” he largely framed the accusations as “dirty politics” aimed at derailing his re-election campaign, rather than directly addressing the DWI charge itself. His campaign messaging centered on his continued dedication to his judicial duties.

As a Justice of the Peace, Davis handles a wide range of legal matters, including small claims cases, truancy hearings, minor criminal offenses, and inquests, making any legal infraction against him particularly noteworthy due to his position as a public official tasked with upholding the law.

Davis is seeking re-election against challenger Billy Driggers in the upcoming election. Davis previously unseated longtime incumbent Judge Wayne Mack in 2020. The DWI charge is expected to be a significant factor as the campaign progresses, potentially drawing increased attention to the ethical conduct expected of judicial officeholders.

Further details regarding the ongoing legal proceedings for the DWI charge are anticipated as the case moves through the Montgomery County court system.
