MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – The excitement for the annual Montgomery County Fair is building, with a significant step taken on August 2 as the official slate of 34 impressive young women vying for the titles of Fair Queen and Junior Fair Queen was proudly announced. This unveiling marks a crucial milestone in the lead-up to the highly anticipated Montgomery County Fair, set to run from March 22-31, 2024. The roster includes 17 dedicated candidates each for both the Fair Queen and Junior Fair Queen categories.

More than just a traditional pageant, the Montgomery County Fair Queen’s Contest is a rigorous leadership and personal development program designed to cultivate essential life skills in young women. Candidates are judged on a comprehensive range of criteria including public speaking, community engagement, agricultural knowledge, academic achievement, and overall character.

“This program provides invaluable life skills and scholarship opportunities that go far beyond the fairgrounds,” emphasized Leslie Johnson, the Queen’s Contest Chairman. “We are looking for ambassadors who embody the spirit of Montgomery County, demonstrate strong leadership potential, and possess a genuine passion for our agricultural heritage and community service.”

The application period, which ran from July 1 to July 31, attracted a competitive pool of young women from across the county. Applicants were required to demonstrate strong academic standing, active involvement in extracurricular activities, and a proven commitment to community service, reflecting the demanding nature of the roles.

The Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo is a cornerstone event for the region, celebrating its rich agricultural traditions, showcasing local talent, and providing educational opportunities for youth. The 10-day extravaganza typically features livestock shows, electrifying rodeo performances, live entertainment, carnival rides, and a variety of family-friendly activities, drawing thousands of attendees annually to experience and celebrate the county’s vibrant community spirit.

The culmination of the contest will be the highly anticipated crowning ceremony on the opening day of the Fair, March 22, 2024. The winners will not only receive significant scholarship money to further their educational pursuits but also a distinctive belt buckle, a symbol of their achievement and connection to the fair’s heritage. The newly crowned Fair Queen will also be awarded a saddle, recognizing the fair’s strong equestrian roots.

Throughout their year-long reign, the Fair Queen and Junior Fair Queen will serve as official ambassadors for the Montgomery County Fair. Their primary role will be to represent the fair at various community events, parades, and agricultural functions across the county, highlighting Montgomery County’s commitment to youth development, agricultural awareness, and the deep-seated values of the community.
