Texas Bone Temple Expands with Kali Maa Temple

**Conroe, Texas – May 6, 2024** – The Shree Sanatan Shiv Shakti Mandir of Texas, widely recognized as the “Bone Temple Complex,” marked a significant new chapter on May 4, 2024, with the groundbreaking ceremony for its latest expansion: the Kali Maa Temple. This pivotal moment underscores the continuous growth and spiritual vitality of the complex, which has blossomed over its 28-year history into a major spiritual and cultural center for the Hindu community across the greater Houston area and beyond.

Located at 200 FM 1488 in Conroe, the sprawling 38-acre site is preparing to welcome a dedicated sanctuary to Goddess Kali, a powerful deity revered in Hinduism. The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by hundreds of devotees and community leaders, featured traditional Vedic rituals and prayers, setting the foundation for what is anticipated to be another architectural marvel within the complex.

“The Kali Maa Temple will be a sacred space for devotees to connect with the divine mother, seeking protection, strength, and liberation,” stated Mr. Sarbeswar “Sarbes” Sahoo, the visionary founder of the Bone Temple Complex. “This expansion reflects the diverse spiritual needs of our growing community and our unwavering commitment to providing a welcoming home for all expressions of Sanatan Dharma.” Construction for the Kali Maa Temple is estimated to take approximately two years, with plans for intricate traditional Indian architectural details.

The journey of this spiritual hub began on February 19, 1996, when Mr. Sahoo, alongside his wife Basanti, formally laid the foundation for what was then a humble aspiration. From that initial shovel in the ground, the temple has steadily grown into a cornerstone for thousands of Hindu families.

The complex earned its unique moniker, the “Bone Temple,” from its distinctive architectural style. Many of its structures feature elaborate white carvings and intricate designs that evoke skeletal forms or delicate bone-like patterns, a testament to traditional Indian temple artistry rarely seen on such a grand scale in North America.

The main temple, the Shree Sanatan Shiv Shakti Mandir, officially opened its ornate doors in 2004. This was just the beginning of a sustained period of expansion. In 2012, the community celebrated the addition of the Saraswati Hall, a much-needed space that now hosts cultural events, educational classes, yoga sessions, and community gatherings. More recently, January 2024 brought the grand opening of the Ram Mandir, another major expansion that was years in the making and drew devotees from across Texas and neighboring states.

Conroe Mayor Pro Tem, Curtis Gibson, highlighted the temple’s significance to the local area. “The Bone Temple Complex is not only a spiritual sanctuary but also a significant cultural and architectural landmark for Conroe and Montgomery County. It enriches our community’s diversity and draws visitors from far and wide, contributing to our local economy and cultural landscape.”

The future plans for the complex remain ambitious, underscoring its continued evolution. Guru Ganeswar Sahoo, spiritual leader and son of the founders, shared exciting upcoming projects. “Beyond the Kali Maa Temple, our vision includes a beautiful Radha Krishna Temple, an expanded, state-of-the-art cafeteria to better serve our growing number of visitors, and a much-needed guest house to accommodate devotees traveling from afar,” he explained. These ongoing developments are largely supported by community donations and dedicated fundraising efforts from its expansive member base.

The Shree Sanatan Shiv Shakti Mandir continues to be a vibrant center for preserving Hindu traditions, fostering intergenerational connections, and serving as a beacon of spirituality and culture in the heart of Texas.
