Fatal 3-Vehicle Crash on Old Conroe Road

**Willis Man Dies in Three-Vehicle Crash on Old Conroe Road; Alcohol Suspected Factor in Ongoing Investigation**

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – A devastating three-vehicle collision on Old Conroe Road in Montgomery County late Monday night claimed the life of a Willis man and sent another individual to the hospital, with authorities actively investigating alcohol as a potential contributing factor.

David Ray Garcia, 57, of Willis, was identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Tuesday, June 11, as the fatality in the crash. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Monday, June 10, on Old Conroe Road, just south of Spring Hills Drive. This stretch of road, a vital north-south connector, is situated near The Woodlands, positioned between FM 1488 and FM 2978.

According to DPS Sgt. Bryan Washko, Garcia was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered into the northbound lane. Garcia’s truck first sideswiped a northbound Ford F-150, driven by a 23-year-old man from Conroe. That driver sustained injuries and was transported by Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) paramedics to HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe for treatment.

Immediately following the initial impact, Garcia’s pickup then collided head-on with a northbound Honda Pilot. Fortunately, the driver of the Pilot, a 24-year-old woman from Montgomery, was not injured in the crash.

Emergency crews, including DPS troopers and local fire department personnel, responded to the scene. One lane of Old Conroe Road remained closed for several hours into early Tuesday morning as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the extensive wreckage. The road was fully reopened to traffic by approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities suspect alcohol might have played a role in the fatal crash, though toxicology reports are pending to confirm this. The DPS investigation is ongoing, including accident reconstruction to determine the precise sequence of events leading to the collision.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety along Old Conroe Road, a busy thoroughfare that serves a rapidly growing part of Montgomery County. Local officials consistently remind drivers of the critical importance of adhering to traffic laws, maintaining focus, and never driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact the Texas Department of Public Safety.
