Grand Oaks High School stabbing: Student charged

**Teen Charged with Attempted Murder After Stabbing at Grand Oaks High School**

**SPRING, TX – June 3, 2024** – A 16-year-old student is facing an attempted murder charge following a stabbing incident at Grand Oaks High School last Thursday, May 30th, which left a 15-year-old classmate hospitalized. The serious altercation unfolded in the school cafeteria shortly before 12:45 p.m., shocking students and staff just days before the end of the academic year.

Authorities identified the weapon used as a folding knife. The victim, whose identity has not been released due to their age, was immediately transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery. As of Monday, June 3rd, officials confirmed the victim is in stable condition and recovering.

The alleged assailant, also unnamed due to his juvenile status, was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement officers present on campus. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCTXSO) indicated that the incident was not a random act of violence, but rather stemmed from an ongoing conflict between the two students.

“Our deputies and school resource officers acted quickly to secure the scene and apprehend the suspect, ensuring the safety of other students and staff,” stated a representative from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “The investigation is still active and ongoing, as we work to understand the full scope of the events leading up to this serious incident.” Further details regarding the nature of the pre-existing conflict have not been publicly disclosed.

Conroe Independent School District (CISD) confirmed that Grand Oaks High School was immediately placed into a “secure the building” status following the incident, a protocol designed to restrict movement within the school while allowing activities to continue inside classrooms. The campus resumed its normal schedule the following day, Friday, May 31st, though additional security and support staff were reportedly present.

In a message to parents and the school community, Conroe ISD officials addressed the unsettling nature of the event. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority,” the district communicated. “We are working closely with law enforcement and providing support services, including counseling, for any students or staff who may need assistance processing this event.” The district urged parents to discuss any concerns with their children and to utilize available resources.

The incident has prompted discussions among parents and community members regarding school safety measures and the prevalence of violence on campuses. While Grand Oaks High School typically maintains a secure environment, the event serves as a stark reminder of the challenges schools face in preventing such altercations.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation. Due to the involvement of minors and the ongoing legal process, specific details about court proceedings and potential long-term consequences, including the possibility of the case being transferred to adult court, remain under wraps.

Parents and community members seeking information or support services are encouraged to contact Conroe ISD or the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office directly.
