Conroe ISD Approves 2024-25 Employee Pay Raises

CONROE, Texas – The Conroe Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees officially approved its 2024-2025 Compensation Plan on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, ushering in pay raises for virtually all district employees for the upcoming academic year. The decision, made during a regularly scheduled board meeting, reflects a significant commitment to attracting and retaining top talent in one of Texas’s largest and fastest-growing school districts.

Under the newly approved plan, teachers, librarians, nurses, counselors, and administrative and professional staff will see a 3% increase, calculated from the midpoint of their respective pay grades. Auxiliary and support staff are slated for a slightly larger bump, with a 4% increase from their midpoint, acknowledging the vital roles these employees play in daily district operations.

Substitute teachers will also benefit, receiving a $5 increase to their daily rate, a move aimed at enhancing the appeal of substitute positions amidst ongoing staffing challenges. In a direct effort to address the critical shortage of school bus drivers, Conroe ISD has boosted its starting pay for bus drivers to an impressive $25 per hour, making it highly competitive within the region.

This comprehensive investment in the district’s workforce totals over $22 million, directly impacting employee compensation for the new academic year. The funding for these raises is attributed to a combination of sound financial management and anticipated local revenue growth, underscoring the district’s commitment to fiscal responsibility while prioritizing its staff.

Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null emphasized the strategic importance of the compensation adjustments. “This move is all about recognizing the incredible dedication of our district employees and ensuring we remain highly competitive in the job market,” Dr. Null stated during the board meeting. “Our goal is to be the employer of choice in this region, and a robust compensation plan is foundational to attracting and retaining the exceptional individuals who educate and support our students every day.”

The Board’s decision comes amidst a competitive landscape for educational professionals in the rapidly expanding Greater Houston area. By offering competitive wages and benefits, Conroe ISD aims to minimize turnover and ensure stability in its schools, directly benefiting student learning and achievement.

As the largest employer in Montgomery County, Conroe ISD’s compensation decisions have a substantial ripple effect across the local economy. The increased purchasing power for thousands of employees is expected to stimulate local businesses and contribute to the overall economic vitality of the community.

The compensation plan details, including specific pay scales, will be accessible on the Conroe ISD Human Resources webpage in the coming weeks.
