Conroe FM 830 Expansion Public Meeting

**TxDOT to Host Public Meeting on Major FM 830 Expansion in Conroe**

**CONROE, TX** – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is inviting the public to an in-person meeting next week to discuss and gather input on a substantial project to expand a critical stretch of FM 830 in the rapidly growing Conroe area. The proposed improvements aim to significantly enhance traffic flow and safety for commuters and residents alike.

The open-house style meeting is scheduled for **Wednesday, February 13, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.** It will be held at **Lake Conroe Park, located at 1496 FM 830 in Conroe, TX 77304**. Residents, property owners, and business representatives are encouraged to attend, review the proposed plans, and provide their valuable feedback directly to TxDOT officials.

The project focuses on a 5.7-mile section of FM 830, transforming it from its current two-lane undivided configuration into a much more robust four-lane divided roadway. This vital expansion will cover the area stretching from west of I-45, extending east past the FM 830/I-45 intersection, and continuing up to north of Lake Conroe Hills Drive.

Beyond adding new lanes, the comprehensive plan includes several key enhancements designed to improve functionality and accessibility. These include the addition of a continuous left-turn lane to ease congestion at intersections, dedicated sidewalks for pedestrian safety, and shared-use paths to accommodate cyclists and other active transportation. The project also proposes updated signalized intersections and a completely new bridge crossing the San Jacinto River, a crucial element for improving connectivity and addressing current infrastructure limitations.

With Conroe experiencing booming population growth and increased traffic, particularly around the Lake Conroe area, local officials and residents have long sought solutions to alleviate congestion and enhance safety on key roadways like FM 830. This expansion is positioned as a long-term solution to meet the demands of the region’s development.

The total estimated cost for this significant undertaking is approximately $141.6 million, which will be fully funded by TxDOT. While the project is currently in its planning stages, construction is tentatively slated to begin as early as 2027.

For those unable to attend the in-person meeting, TxDOT is also offering a virtual meeting option. Details on how to access the virtual presentation and project materials can typically be found on the TxDOT Houston District project website or by searching for “FM 830 Conroe project” on the TxDOT main site.

Public input is a critical component of the environmental review and design process. Comments on the proposed expansion can be submitted in writing via mail or email. All feedback must be received by **February 28, 2024,** to be included in the official public record.

Written comments should be directed to:

This public meeting provides a vital opportunity for community members to understand the scope of the project, ask questions, and contribute their perspectives, which TxDOT will consider as the project moves forward.
