Montgomery County Lions Kick Off New Service Year

Montgomery County Lions Clubs Usher In New Service Year with Leadership Installations

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – Local Lions Clubs across Montgomery County have officially kicked off their new service year, which began July 1st, with several chapters already installing their new leadership teams dedicated to community service and growth. These installations mark a renewed commitment to the Lions Clubs International mission of empowering volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding.

The Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club, chartered in 2017, held its installation ceremony on July 11th, welcoming Rick Schwenker as its new President, alongside his dedicated slate of officers. The club is well-known for its impactful community contributions, particularly its extensive youth vision screening efforts, assisting over 2,100 children annually, and awarding three to four $1,000 scholarships each year to deserving students. Beyond vision care, the club actively supports local food banks, school backpack programs, the Montgomery County Women’s Shelter, and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). This season, the club has already welcomed four new members to its ranks, further expanding its capacity for service. The Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM at Kona Grill, located at 10271 Grogans Mill Road in The Woodlands.

Meanwhile, the long-standing Montgomery Lions Club, a local institution since its charter in 1968, installed President George Wurtz and his officers earlier this month. This club also prioritizes children’s well-being, conducting vital eye screenings at schools such as Montgomery Elementary and Madeley Ranch Elementary. Additionally, they provide scholarships to Montgomery High School seniors and offer crucial support for veterans within the community. The Montgomery Lions Club convenes on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at noon at Vernon’s Kuntry Katfish, located at 1515 League Line Road in Conroe.

Both installation ceremonies were officiated by District Governor Larry D. Parker, Sr., hailing from Nacogdoches. Governor Parker oversees District 2-S2, an expansive region comprising 58 clubs across Southeast Texas, encompassing the greater Houston, Conroe, and Galveston areas. His presence underscored the significance of these leadership transitions within the broader Lions Clubs network. Both the Lake Conroe Centennial and Montgomery Lions Clubs are actively seeking to grow their membership and extend an invitation to new individuals passionate about community service. They welcome those interested in learning more or joining their efforts to attend a meeting or reach out for additional information.
