LST Conroe: Increased Enforcement for Community Safety

**Conroe Braces for Lone Star Throwdown Amidst Major Law Enforcement Crackdown**

**CONROE, TX – February 21, 2024** – The 13th annual Lone Star Throwdown, a colossal custom truck and car show, is set to rev into Conroe this weekend, from Friday, February 23rd, through Sunday, February 25th, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. The popular event typically draws tens of thousands of automotive enthusiasts and a dazzling array of custom vehicles to the area, promising a vibrant display of automotive craftsmanship.

However, residents and visitors alike should be prepared for more than just custom rides. A significant multi-agency law enforcement task force has ramped up its presence across Conroe and its major thoroughfares, signaling a “no-tolerance” approach to disruptive behavior.

The task force, spearheaded by the Conroe Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, also includes the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission (TABC). Their unified presence underscores the seriousness with which officials are addressing concerns stemming from previous Lone Star Throwdown events.

For years, the gathering, while a boon for local businesses and a draw for automotive culture, has also been criticized for its negative impacts on the community. These have included rampant illegal street racing, dangerous stunts, excessive noise from loud exhausts and engine revving, significant traffic congestion, and other illicit activities such as DWI/DUI, drug offenses, and violent crimes. These issues have often spilled over from the fairgrounds into surrounding neighborhoods and major roads, leading to public safety hazards and widespread community frustration.

Conroe Police Chief Philip Dupuis articulated the dual message: “We want people to come and have a good time… but if you’re going to come here and cause issues, we’re going to arrest you.” Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Scott Spencer echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the participating agencies are fully prepared to take swift and decisive action against anyone breaking the law. The involvement of the District Attorney’s Office further signals that arrests will likely lead to prosecution, with potential penalties including hefty fines, jail time, and vehicle impoundment for serious offenses like street racing or reckless endangerment.

Throughout the weekend, the public can expect to see a heavily increased law enforcement presence. This includes both uniformed and unmarked patrol vehicles, with a particular focus on major routes such as Loop 336, I-45, Highway 105, FM 3083, and FM 1488. Officers will be meticulously enforcing traffic laws, targeting violations such as speeding, illegal vehicle modifications, dangerously loud exhausts, and reckless driving. Conroe PD’s dedicated motorcycle patrol unit will also play a key role in traffic management and enforcement.

Local officials are strongly advising residents to plan for significant traffic congestion, especially around the Montgomery County Fairgrounds located at 953 Airport Rd, Conroe, TX 77301, and along the aforementioned key arteries. Travelers should allow extra time for commutes and consider alternative routes if possible.

The community is also being urged to actively participate in maintaining safety by reporting any suspicious or illegal activity. For immediate emergencies, call 911. For less urgent matters or to report non-emergency violations, residents should contact local law enforcement’s non-emergency lines.

While the Lone Star Throwdown is expected to bring a vibrant atmosphere and an economic boost to Conroe’s hotels, restaurants, and gas stations, authorities are making it clear that public safety and adherence to the law remain paramount. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy the custom truck and car show responsibly, understanding that law enforcement is prepared to ensure a safe environment for all.
