**Harris County ADA Fired After Felony Strangulation Arrest in Montgomery County**

**THE WOODLANDS, TX** – Jessica C. Brown, an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County, was swiftly terminated from her position on Thursday, October 19, following her arrest the previous day on a felony strangulation charge in Montgomery County.

The allegations stem from an incident on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, when Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported disturbance in The Woodlands area. Following their investigation, Brown was taken into custody and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. She faces a charge of Felony Strangulation – Family Violence. Her bond was subsequently set at $15,000. The identity of the alleged victim has not been released, consistent with protocols in family violence cases.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Brown’s immediate termination, emphasizing her office’s unequivocal stance against such offenses. “Our office has zero tolerance for family violence,” Ogg stated. “Ms. Brown is no longer employed with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as of her firing.”

Given the incident occurred within their jurisdiction, the case will be prosecuted by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. First Assistant District Attorney Mike Miller confirmed their office’s handling of the matter, ensuring an independent review and prosecution.

Felony strangulation, classified as family violence under Texas law, is a serious charge that alleges an individual intentionally or knowingly impedes the normal breathing or circulation of a family member, household member, or dating partner by applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck, or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth. The charge carries significant penalties, including potential prison time and substantial fines, upon conviction.

Brown, who had served as an Assistant District Attorney in Harris County, is now expected to make initial court appearances in Montgomery County to formally answer to the felony charge. The legal process is underway, and further details regarding court dates are anticipated.
