**Crighton Theatre Stages Steinbeck’s Timeless *Of Mice and Men* in Conroe**

CONROE, TX – The historic Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe has opened its stage to The Players Theatre Company’s powerful production of John Steinbeck’s enduring classic, *Of Mice and Men*. This heart-wrenching drama, lauded for its poignant exploration of friendship, dreams, and the harsh realities of the Great Depression, runs on select dates this May at 234 N. Main Street.

Audiences are invited to experience evening performances at 8 p.m. on May 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th. Matinee showings are scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 5th and May 12th, offering multiple opportunities to witness this compelling theatrical event.

Directed by Adam Isbell, the play meticulously transports audiences to the sun-baked Salinas Valley of 1930s California, centering on the profound, often tragic, bond between two migrant workers. Justin Herlong delivers a compelling performance as George Milton, the quick-witted and protective friend, while Brandon Jones portrays the gentle giant, Lennie Small, with remarkable sensitivity. Their shared dream of owning a small farm anchors a narrative rich with themes of loneliness, the relentless pursuit of the American Dream, and the stark economic realities faced by many during the era.

“Bringing *Of Mice and Men* to life is a profound experience,” said director Adam Isbell. “Steinbeck’s themes of hope, despair, and the unbreakable bond between two men striving for a dream resonate as powerfully today as they did almost a century ago. We’ve worked to create an immersive experience that honors the text while highlighting its timeless relevance.”

The stellar cast further enriches the production, bringing to life the complex inhabitants of the ranch. Joe Taylor takes on the role of the aging, dog-loving Candy, while Sam Booth embodies the volatile Curley, and Amy Sowers delivers a nuanced performance as Curley’s enigmatic Wife. Blake Wuest plays the respected Slim, Jason-Lloyd Barrett portrays the ostracized Crooks, Robert Angeli is Carlson, William Warren appears as Whit, and Terry Lynn Hale rounds out the ensemble as The Boss. Adding a unique touch to the cast is a Labradoodle named Sadie, charming audiences as Candy’s beloved dog.

“George and Lennie’s story is heartbreakingly beautiful,” commented Justin Herlong on his role. “Playing George means delving into the complexities of love, burden, and sacrifice. The chemistry with Brandon has been incredible, and we hope to convey the depth of their relationship to every audience member.”

The Crighton Theatre, a cornerstone of Conroe’s vibrant arts scene, provides an intimate and atmospheric setting for this classic American drama. The Players Theatre Company, a long-standing group dedicated to bringing quality theatrical experiences to the community, continues its tradition of impactful storytelling with this production.
