Texas Flag History & Designer Presentation

**Local Actor to Portray Lone Star Flag Designer Charles B. Stewart at Montgomery County Library**

CONROE, TX – Texans are invited to delve into the rich history behind the iconic Lone Star Flag as actor Jack Shepherd brings its designer, Charles B. Stewart, to life in a special performance on Tuesday, February 27th. The free event, part of the “History in the Stacks” series, begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Montgomery County Central Library, located at 104 I-45 North in Conroe.

Shepherd will appear in character as Stewart, offering a first-person account of the flag’s creation and its profound historical significance. Attendees will gain insights into the specific design choices and the turbulent era that led to its adoption.

Charles B. Stewart was a pivotal figure in early Texas history, known as a lawyer and legislator. He famously signed the Texas Declaration of Independence and later represented Montgomery County in the First Congress of the Republic of Texas. Stewart’s enduring legacy is his iconic design: a single blue vertical stripe featuring a white star, flanked by horizontal white and red stripes. This design was officially adopted on January 25, 1839.

The flag’s colors hold deep symbolism: blue for loyalty, white for purity, and red for bravery. The lone star itself powerfully symbolizes Texas’s independence and unity.

“The story of the Lone Star Flag is the story of Texas itself – its fight for independence, its unity, and the enduring spirit of its people,” said MCHC Chair, Suzie Eads (simulated quote). “We are thrilled to partner with the library to bring this important historical narrative to life through Jack Shepherd’s portrayal of Charles B. Stewart. It’s a fantastic opportunity for all ages to connect with our state’s heritage.”

The “History in the Stacks” series is presented by the Montgomery County Historical Commission (MCHC), dedicated to preserving and promoting the unique history of Montgomery County. These events aim to make history engaging and accessible for the community.

“Portraying Charles B. Stewart is an honor,” said Shepherd (simulated quote). “He was a man who lived through monumental times, and his vision for the flag continues to inspire. I hope to give the audience a real sense of his perspective and the passion behind this timeless symbol.”

The event is open to the public and completely free to attend. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Ample parking is available at the library.
