Charles B. Stewart Library to Mark Two Decades of Service with Special 20th Anniversary Celebration in 2026

Conroe, TX – The Charles B. Stewart Library, a vital hub for learning and community engagement in Montgomery County’s Precinct 1, is gearing up for a significant milestone: its 20th anniversary in 2026. A special community celebration is slated for Tuesday, February 24, 2026, marking two full decades since the library first opened its doors and established itself as a cornerstone resource for local residents.

Opened on February 24, 2006, the Charles B. Stewart Library quickly became a crucial part of the Conroe-Montgomery area. Named in honor of Charles B. Stewart, a distinguished Montgomery County lawyer, judge, and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, the library was envisioned to provide essential access to books, technology, and cultural programs for the rapidly growing communities within Precinct 1.

Over the past twenty years, the library has grown and evolved significantly, adapting to the diverse and changing needs of its patrons. Beyond its extensive collection of physical and digital books, the facility offers free computer and internet access, educational workshops, engaging children’s story times, teen programs, and adult learning classes. Its resources, including e-books, audiobooks, and research databases, are accessible to all Montgomery County residents.

“We are incredibly proud of the profound impact the Charles B. Stewart Library has had on our community,” said Maria Sanchez, Director of the Montgomery County Memorial Library System. “From fostering a love of reading in children and providing essential digital literacy skills for adults, to serving as a welcoming space for community gatherings and local history preservation, we’ve seen countless lives enriched within these walls. This anniversary is not just a celebration of our history, but a testament to the unwavering support of the community and the dedication of our staff and volunteers.”

Montgomery County Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker underscored the library’s enduring legacy. “The Charles B. Stewart Library is a true gem in Precinct 1, representing a long-term investment in our residents’ education, recreation, and overall quality of life,” Commissioner Walker stated. “Its growth and expansion of services over two decades mirror the growth of our community, and we look forward to its continued success and innovation for many decades to come.”

The February 24, 2026 celebration will take place at the library, located at 2025 Lake Robbins Dr, Conroe, TX 77304. Attendees can anticipate a festive atmosphere featuring commemorative remarks from local officials and library leadership, historical displays showcasing the library’s journey and milestones, family-friendly activities, light refreshments, and an opportunity to engage with library staff and fellow community members. The “Friends of the Charles B. Stewart Library” group is expected to play a pivotal role in organizing and supporting the festivities, reflecting their ongoing commitment to enriching library services.

Charles B. Stewart (1806-1885) was a significant figure in Texas history. Born in South Carolina, he moved to Texas in 1830 and settled in Montgomery County. He was a delegate to the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos, where he proudly signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. His legacy of public service and dedication to education makes him an ideal namesake for a community institution dedicated to knowledge and civic engagement.
