Montgomery Co. Burglary Ring: One Arrest, Four Wanted

MONTGOMERY COUNTY – Authorities have announced a major breakthrough in a series of high-end burglaries that targeted affluent neighborhoods across Montgomery County late last year and into early 2024. One suspect has been arrested, and warrants are out for four others, all believed to be part of a sophisticated ring responsible for over $1.5 million in stolen valuables.

David Michael Smith has been apprehended and is now facing 10 counts of burglary in Montgomery County. Warrants have also been issued for Kenneth Ray Smith, Darion Deandre Stewart, Jeremy Donnell Harris, and Christian Trevon Bryant, all with identified links back to Houston. These four individuals remain at large.

The burglaries, which primarily occurred between November 2023 and January 2024, hit areas including The Woodlands’ Creekside Park and Carlton Woods subdivisions, as well as High Meadow Ranch near Magnolia. Investigators have linked the crew to at least 27 reported cases stretching across the jurisdictions of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Magnolia Police Department, and Tomball Police Department.

According to officials, the suspects consistently targeted unoccupied homes, often gaining entry by smashing a back window or prying open a door, typically during late-night or overnight hours. Their focus was high-value items, including large sums of cash, jewelry, and luxury goods. A distinctive modus operandi in these crimes involved the use of stolen Ford F-series pickup trucks, frequently fitted with fake license plates, which were then abandoned after a break-in.

The significant break in the case occurred on February 20th. David Michael Smith was involved in a police chase that originated in Harris County and concluded back in Montgomery County. The pursuit involved a stolen truck that investigators had previously linked to the ongoing string of burglaries. Following the chase, officers searched the truck and discovered stolen property, directly traced back to a home that had been burglarized earlier that same day in The Woodlands’ Creekside Park subdivision. This direct link led to Smith’s immediate arrest.

The arrests are the culmination of a large-scale, multi-agency investigation that has been diligently working to connect the dots across numerous incidents and jurisdictions. Law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to locate and apprehend the four remaining suspects. The collaborative work aims to bring resolution to the communities affected by what has been described as a well-organized operation preying on some of the area’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
