**Assistance League of Montgomery County Welcomes New President, Celebrates Record-Breaking Year of Service and 35th Anniversary**

**CONROE, TX – May 21, 2024** – The Assistance League of Montgomery County ushered in new leadership and marked an extraordinary year of community impact at its annual installation luncheon on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Held at the elegant Bentwater Yacht Club, the event celebrated the organization’s continued dedication to philanthropic service and its 35th anniversary.

Mary Anne Wilson officially stepped into the role of President for the 2024-2025 term, taking the reins from Cindy Gaskill, who admirably led the all-volunteer nonprofit through its 2023-2024 fiscal year, concluding on April 30. Other key officers installed for the upcoming year include Sarah Jenkins as President-Elect, Elizabeth “Liz” Miller as VP Philanthropic Programs, and David Chen as VP Membership, among others.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve as President this past year and witness firsthand the profound dedication of our volunteers and the incredible generosity of our community,” stated outgoing President Cindy Gaskill. “We achieved remarkable milestones, from reaching over 12,000 individuals to generating nearly $1 million at our OpShop, all thanks to the tireless efforts of our members. I am immensely proud of what we accomplished together and confident in the capable hands of Mary Anne Wilson and the new board.”

Incoming President Mary Anne Wilson expressed her enthusiasm for the year ahead. “I am deeply honored and excited to lead the Assistance League of Montgomery County as we embark on another year of making a tangible difference in our community,” Wilson said. “Cindy and her team have set a high bar, and I am committed to building upon their success, ensuring our programs continue to meet the evolving needs of Montgomery County residents. Our 35th anniversary is a testament to the enduring spirit of our volunteers and the unwavering support of our neighbors.”

The past year was indeed one of unprecedented success for the local chapter. The Assistance League’s OpShop, located at 126 N. San Jacinto in Conroe, proved to be a vital funding engine, generating nearly $1 million in sales. These proceeds directly fuel the organization’s numerous philanthropic programs.

One of their flagship initiatives, Operation School Bell, provided new school clothing and supplies to more than 5,000 students across 10 school districts, including Conroe, Willis, Splendora, New Caney, Montgomery, Magnolia, Tomball, College Park, Caney Creek, and Oak Ridge. “Receiving new clothes and supplies isn’t just about material items; it’s about boosting a child’s confidence and ensuring they feel ready and equal to their peers on the first day of school,” commented a representative from the Conroe ISD community outreach program, a long-time partner.

Further demonstrating their commitment to education, the Assistance League awarded an impressive $200,000 in scholarships to 45 deserving Montgomery County students, helping to open doors to higher education and future success.

In critical support services, the organization distributed over 750 Assault Survivor Kits, offering comfort and immediate necessities to individuals during traumatic times, often partnering with local law enforcement and the Montgomery County Women’s Center. Their “Warmth for All” initiative saw more than 700 handmade quilts given to various agencies, including the Conroe Police Department, the Montgomery County Women’s Center, Child Protective Services, senior care centers, and hospice facilities, providing a tangible sense of care and comfort.

The organization’s Dental Van provided crucial dental care to 125 children who might otherwise lack access to these vital services, and the “Pass It On” program successfully repurposed 57,000 pounds of gently used clothing, furthering their sustainability efforts and providing affordable options for families.

As the Assistance League of Montgomery County celebrates 35 years of dedicated service, its impact on the local community continues to grow. A chapter of a national nonprofit, Assistance League is a non-political, non-sectarian, all-volunteer organization that identifies and addresses unmet needs in the community through its philanthropic programs.

The organization invites community members to join their mission through volunteering, donating gently used items to the OpShop, or shopping at the store.
