**Conroe Security Guard Identified as Victim in Fatal Police Chase Collision, Suspect Charged with Murder**

CONROE, TX – A Conroe security guard, remembered as a beloved and dedicated fixture in the community, was tragically killed this past Sunday after being struck by a vehicle fleeing police. Authorities have identified the victim as 58-year-old Michael “Todd” Hoffart and have charged 22-year-old Garrett Glen Holley with murder in connection with his death.

The fatal incident unfolded around 1:45 p.m. on May 19, when Conroe Police Department officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen Chevrolet Silverado. The vehicle, allegedly driven by Holley, was spotted on Interstate 45 North near Research Forest Drive. According to police reports, Holley refused to stop, initiating a high-speed pursuit that led officers into the crowded parking lot of the Target store located at 3267 I-45 North.

It was in this parking lot that the fleeing truck violently collided with Hoffart, who was on duty as a security guard for the Target store. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as Hoffart was hit. He was declared deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Following the collision, Holley reportedly abandoned the stolen Silverado and attempted to escape on foot. Conroe Police officers, however, quickly apprehended him behind a nearby business, ending the brief foot chase.

“This was a senseless act of violence that cost a dedicated member of our community his life,” stated Sgt. Scott Snell of the Conroe Police Department during a press briefing. “Our officers were attempting to apprehend a suspect in a stolen vehicle, and the suspect’s reckless disregard for public safety during the pursuit directly led to this tragic outcome.”

Hoffart, known affectionately by many as “Todd,” was a well-known and respected presence at the Conroe Target. Customers and colleagues alike remembered him for his warm demeanor, friendly greetings, and unwavering commitment to his role. “Todd was more than just a security guard; he was part of the Target family and a friend to so many of us,” said a Target employee who wished to remain anonymous. “He always had a smile and a kind word. We are heartbroken.”

Following his arrest, Holley appeared before a judge for a bond hearing on Monday, May 20. He has been formally charged with murder, a first-degree felony in Texas. Due to the severe nature of the charge and the circumstances of Hoffart’s death, Holley’s bond was set at a substantial $750,000. He remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail. If convicted of murder, Holley could face a sentence of 5 to 99 years, or life, in state prison.

Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon’s office confirmed they are actively investigating the case and will seek justice for Hoffart. “The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Hoffart’s family and loved ones,” a spokesperson stated. “We are committed to prosecuting this case vigorously to ensure accountability for this tragic loss of life.”

The community has rallied in support of Hoffart’s family. A GoFundMe page has been established by friends and family to help cover funeral expenses and provide support during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements are pending as the family navigates their profound grief.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Conroe Police Department and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office working collaboratively. Further details may be released as the legal process unfolds.
