Chamber Wins 13th Annual History Road Show Quiz

CONROE, Texas – The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce team demonstrated their deep knowledge of local heritage this past Saturday, May 25, 2024, by clinching the first-place trophy at the 13th Annual History Road Show. The popular history quiz competition, hosted by the Montgomery County Historical Commission (MCHC), brought together 13 teams vying for bragging rights and the coveted prize.

Held at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility, the event provided an engaging arena for an intellectual showdown focused on the region’s storied past. Participants tackled a diverse range of questions, designed to challenge their understanding of Montgomery County’s rich history, from its foundational moments and early pioneers to significant local events and influential figures.

“We are incredibly proud to have our team represent the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce and bring home the win,” stated a representative from the Chamber. “Events like the History Road Show are invaluable. They not only educate but also foster a deeper appreciation for the unique legacy that shapes our community today.”

Larry L. Foerster, MCHC Chairman, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s continued success in fostering historical literacy and community engagement. “The History Road Show is more than just a quiz; it’s a vibrant celebration of our shared heritage,” Foerster commented. “It consistently brings the community together, educating everyone on the unique and vital history of Montgomery County in a truly interactive way.”

The competition saw a spirited display from teams representing various local organizations, including other area chambers, civic groups, historical societies, and local businesses, all united by a common interest in their county’s past. Questions delved into topics ranging from the county’s establishment in 1837, its role in the early Republic of Texas, the development of major industries like logging and oil, the creation of Lake Conroe, and the lives of prominent individuals who shaped its growth.

Behind the scenes, the event ran smoothly thanks to dedicated volunteers. Janie Harris meticulously handled the scorekeeping throughout the day, while Dr. William and Sue Wuthrich served as judges, ensuring accuracy and fair play. Quizmasters, all members of the MCHC, kept the energy high, guiding teams through the challenging rounds of questions.

While the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber team proudly took home the main award, organizers underscored that the true victory of the day lay in the renewed interest and appreciation for local history generated among all participants and attendees. The MCHC continues its mission to preserve and promote Montgomery County’s history through various initiatives and events.
