**Conroe ISD Trustee Search Narrows: 20 Applicants Vie for Open Seat, Interviews Set for Jan. 13**

Conroe, TX – The Conroe Independent School District has received 20 applications for its open Position 1 trustee seat, signaling strong community interest in guiding one of Texas’s largest and fastest-growing school districts. The pool of candidates will be publicly interviewed by the current trustees at a special meeting scheduled for January 13.

The vacancy arose following the resignation of former trustee Skeeter Hubert, effective December 31, 2025, who stepped down citing his wife’s health concerns. The district had set an application deadline of January 7 at 4 p.m., leading to a robust field of contenders for the significant role.

The special board meeting will commence at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 13, at the CISD administration building, located at 3200 W. Davis St. in Conroe. The primary agenda for the evening is for the current board members to conduct public interviews with the applicants. Following the interviews, the trustees may potentially select an individual to fill the role.

“We are incredibly pleased with the strong interest from our community in serving on the board,” said Dr. Curtis Null, CISD Superintendent. “The quality of candidates demonstrates the deep commitment residents have to our students and schools. This is a vital position that will directly impact the future of our district.”

Board President Dat Maus added, “This is a critical decision for our district, and we are committed to a transparent and thorough process. We look forward to hearing from each applicant and selecting an individual who will best represent the diverse needs of our students, parents, and taxpayers as we continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of a growing district.”

Community members interested in weighing in on the selection process will have an opportunity for public comment during the meeting. Those wishing to speak must sign up in advance, typically at the meeting’s start. Details regarding public comment procedures can be found on the CISD Board of Trustees website.

The individual appointed to Position 1 will serve until the general election in May 2027. This term allows the new trustee to immediately contribute to district governance while providing an opportunity for voters to make a permanent selection in the next available election cycle.

Conroe ISD is a significant educational entity, serving approximately 72,000 students across its 67 campuses. Its size makes it the ninth-largest school district in Texas, with its board of trustees playing a crucial role in setting district policy, approving budgets, and overseeing the superintendent. The appointed trustee will join the board during a period of rapid growth and evolving educational landscapes.
