Conroe Area Transport Project Status

Conroe Area Sees Major Progress on Key Transportation Projects

Conroe and surrounding Montgomery County are experiencing a wave of transportation improvements, with multiple key projects advancing to enhance mobility and safety for residents and commuters. As of October 9, 2025, several major initiatives are well underway, aiming to reshape the region’s infrastructure over the coming years.

The Highway 105 widening project from Lake Conroe to FM 149 in Montgomery is now 66% complete. This $56.7 million undertaking, initiated in the third quarter of 2022 by James Construction Group LLC, involves transforming the existing two-lane road into four undivided concrete lanes, augmented by a continuous left-turn lane. The project is projected to reach completion by the first quarter of 2026, promising improved traffic flow and safety for the busy corridor.

Adjacent to this, the Highway 105 widening from FM 149 to Loop 336 West in Conroe is 52% complete. This more extensive $100 million project, handled by Webber LLC, commenced in the first quarter of 2023 and is slated for a second-quarter 2027 finish. It will expand the roadway from two lanes to six divided concrete lanes, incorporating signal upgrades, storm sewers, a shared-use path on the north side, and sidewalks on the south, significantly enhancing capacity and pedestrian access.

Further south, significant work continues on Interstate 45 at River Plantation Drive. This project, which began in the second quarter of 2025 with Angel Brothers Enterprises, is currently 11% complete. With a budget of $31.86 million, the initiative focuses on rebuilding northbound and southbound mainlanes, adding new entrance and exit ramps, and creating auxiliary lanes, alongside improvements to the River Plantation Drive overpass. It is expected to conclude by the first quarter of 2027, with the goal of reducing congestion and enhancing freeway safety.

Nearby, the new League Line Road overpass over I-45 is also making headway, standing at 10% completion. This $35 million project, also undertaken by Angel Brothers Enterprises since the second quarter of 2025, involves constructing entirely new League Line Road mainlanes and the overpass itself, along with new entrance and exit ramps. This vital connector is anticipated to be ready by the second quarter of 2027, promising better connectivity and improved traffic flow in the area.

Looking ahead, the widening of FM 1488 from Magnolia West High School to FM 1774 is progressing past the design phase. This $39 million project aims to expand the current two-lane road to four divided lanes, specifically addressing the rapid growth in the area and ensuring smoother traffic movement. Construction is estimated to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with an anticipated completion by the second quarter of 2029. The contractor for this project is yet to be determined.

For a more immediate impact, the Loop 336 North at Teas Nursery Road project is nearing completion. This $1.49 million initiative, which started in the second quarter of 2025 by Third Coast Construction, involves installing a new U-turn lane to facilitate movement from southbound Loop 336 North to northbound. This addition is almost finished and is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2025, offering a quick solution to improve local traffic flow and reduce queuing.

Lastly, a significant future infrastructure improvement is the McCaleb Road extension in West Montgomery County. Currently in the design phase, this project will extend McCaleb Road from FM 2854 to FM 1488, including the construction of a new bridge over Spring Creek. The plan outlines a four-lane divided roadway, designed to provide a crucial alternative route to I-45 and SH 105, thereby alleviating regional congestion. With an estimated budget of $23.5 million, construction is projected to commence in the third quarter of 2027 and conclude by the third quarter of 2029. The contractor for this long-term project also remains to be determined.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from TxDOT and local county resources for the latest information on these ongoing and upcoming transportation projects.
