Conroe Chamber Chairman’s Ball Honors Leaders

Conroe, Texas – The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce ushered in a new era of leadership while celebrating community achievements with a touch of Prohibition-era elegance at its annual Chairman’s Ball on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Held at the South Conroe Campus of Lone Star College-Montgomery, located at 3200 College Park Drive, the black-tie gala adopted a memorable “Godfather” theme, transforming the venue into a luxurious speakeasy for the evening.

The night’s central focus was the formal transition of leadership, honoring outgoing Chairman Duke Coon for his dedicated tenure and officially welcoming Gary Louie as the Chamber’s incoming Chairman. Guests began arriving at 6 p.m. for a sophisticated reception, which then led into a gourmet dinner, a comprehensive awards presentation, and vibrant entertainment provided by the popular group The Projecto.

Attendees were transported to a bygone era, with the Lone Star College campus meticulously decorated to reflect the opulent, clandestine atmosphere of a 1920s speakeasy, inspired by the classic film. The “Godfather” theme provided a unique and immersive backdrop for an evening dedicated to celebrating excellence within the Conroe and Lake Conroe business community.

During the program, Duke Coon reflected on his impactful term as Chairman, expressing gratitude for the Chamber’s progress and the community’s unwavering support. Incoming Chairman Gary Louie shared his enthusiasm for the year ahead, outlining his vision for continuing the Chamber’s mission of fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality of life in the region.

Beyond the change of guard, the evening also served as a platform to recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions have significantly shaped the local landscape. Prestigious awards were presented across several categories, including Volunteer of the Year, Director of the Year, Committee of the Year, Ambassador of the Year, Business of the Year, and the coveted Citizen of the Year, acknowledging the depth of dedication within the community.

The elegant affair was a ticketed event, with individual admissions priced at $150 per person, or guests could secure a reserved table of ten for $1,500. A significant portion of the evening was dedicated to fundraising efforts through both silent and live auctions, skillfully led by Judge Wayne Mack, whose energetic auctioneering added to the night’s excitement. A notable presenting sponsor for the ball was the Margaritaville Lake Resort, a major development slated to open in Conroe in 2019, highlighting key future growth in the area.
