Conroe Interact Club’s Holiday Service Efforts

**Conroe High Interact Club Spreads Holiday Cheer and Compassion for Women’s Center**

Conroe High School’s Interact Club brought a strong dose of holiday spirit and community service to downtown Conroe and beyond this December, channeling their efforts to support the vital work of the Montgomery County Women’s Center (MCWC). Through a festive parade appearance and a dedicated service project, students demonstrated their commitment to making a tangible difference for those in need.

The club’s holiday activities began on Saturday, December 2, 2023, as they rolled through the streets of downtown Conroe in the annual Conroe Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade. Their vibrant float, creatively themed “A Grinchmas Holiday,” wasn’t just a display of festive cheer. Interact members actively engaged with parade-goers, collecting an impressive haul of toys destined for children supported by the MCWC. The generous response from the community underscored the spirit of giving in Conroe.

Just a few days later, on Tuesday, December 5, the Interact Club continued its mission during its own holiday party hosted in the Conroe High School library. This special gathering brought together club members and their proud sponsors from the Rotary Club of Conroe. Among those celebrating were Melanie Miculka, the Conroe High Interact Club sponsor, and Jim Johnson, President of the Rotary Club of Conroe. Attendees enjoyed food, games, and a gift exchange, but the true centerpiece of the evening was a hands-on service project.

Members dedicated time to meticulously creating “comfort bags” for children who arrive at the Montgomery County Women’s Center. These bags were thoughtfully assembled with essential items designed to provide a sense of solace and normalcy during a difficult transition. Each bag was filled with toiletries, comforting snacks, small toys, and books, offering a small but significant gesture of kindness to children often experiencing trauma and displacement.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our students embrace service with such enthusiasm and creativity,” said Melanie Miculka, Interact Club sponsor. “The ‘Grinchmas’ parade float was a fantastic way to engage the community, and the comfort bags truly highlight the students’ empathy. They understand that these small gestures can make a world of difference to a child facing a challenging situation.”

Jim Johnson, President of the Rotary Club of Conroe, emphasized the importance of nurturing future community leaders. “The Interact Club is a shining example of youth leadership in action. Seeing these young people dedicate their time and talent to organizations like the Montgomery County Women’s Center reaffirms our Rotary commitment to service above self and building strong communities for generations to come.”

The Montgomery County Women’s Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe haven, advocacy, and support services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Donations like the toys and comfort bags collected by the Interact Club are crucial in helping the MCWC meet the immediate needs and bring moments of joy and stability to the families they serve.

Beyond these impactful holiday efforts, the Conroe High School Interact Club remains committed to its mission of fostering service, leadership, and friendship throughout the academic year. The club is already making plans for its “Seniors with Swag” gift bags, an initiative scheduled for distribution to graduating seniors in May, recognizing their achievements and future endeavors.
