Conroe ISD Achieves 21st Superior Financial Rating

**Conroe ISD Earns Unprecedented 21st Consecutive ‘Superior’ Financial Rating from TEA**

Conroe ISD has once again demonstrated exemplary financial management, securing a “Superior Achievement” rating from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the 2022-2023 school year. This marks an extraordinary milestone for the district, as it’s the 21st consecutive year CISD has received the highest possible designation under the state’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or FIRST.

The district achieved a perfect score of 100 out of 100 points, reaffirming its position at the top tier of financial stewardship among Texas public school districts. The TEA released these findings in November 2023, confirming CISD’s consistent commitment to fiscal responsibility.

The FIRST system is a crucial program designed by the TEA to monitor and evaluate how Texas public school districts manage their financial resources. It ensures that taxpayer money is used efficiently and effectively, directly supporting student education and district operations. The evaluation considers various financial indicators, including reporting accuracy, solvency, and compliance with state regulations.

Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null emphasized the district’s dedication to its community. “This consistent recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility and ensuring every taxpayer dollar directly benefits our students’ education and future,” Dr. Null stated. “Being good stewards of taxpayer dollars is not just a goal; it’s a fundamental promise we make to the families and community members who entrust us with their resources.”

Chief Financial Officer Darren Rice highlighted the tangible impact of this sustained financial health. “Our strong financial health allows us to invest strategically in resources, technology, and programs that directly enhance classroom learning and support our dedicated educators,” Rice explained. “This rating isn’t just about numbers; it reflects our ability to provide the best possible environment for our students and staff, fostering educational excellence throughout the district.”

The Conroe ISD Board of Trustees also plays a crucial role in maintaining this high level of financial integrity through rigorous oversight and adherence to sound financial policies. Their diligent guidance ensures accountability and transparency in all district financial dealings.

For more than two decades, Conroe ISD has set a benchmark for financial accountability in Texas public education. This unbroken streak of “Superior” ratings reflects a deep-rooted culture of fiscal prudence, ensuring the district remains financially stable and capable of delivering high-quality education to its growing student population. Information on the FIRST rating system and district reports are publicly available on the Texas Education Agency website.
