Conroe ISD Funds $100M for Safety, Tech, Facilities

**Conroe ISD Trustees Unanimously Approve Over $100 Million for Safety, Technology, and Facilities Upgrades**

**CONROE, TX – June 19, 2024** – The Conroe ISD Board of Trustees, in a unanimous vote during their meeting on Tuesday, June 18th, has approved the allocation of $100,535,000 from the voter-approved 2023 Bond Referendum. This substantial funding package is earmarked for critical enhancements across the district, focusing on school safety, instructional technology, and essential facilities maintenance.

This latest allocation represents a significant step in fulfilling the commitments made to the community through the 2023 Bond, which voters overwhelmingly approved last November. The $1.98 billion bond package was designed to address the needs of one of Texas’s fastest-growing school districts, serving over 70,000 students across more than 60 campuses.

A lion’s share of the approved funds, approximately $47.5 million, will be dedicated to bolstering safety and security measures district-wide. These enhancements include the installation of secure vestibules at every campus currently without them, providing an additional layer of protection at school entrances. Secondary schools and select elementary campuses will see new perimeter fencing, while interior and exterior camera systems are slated for significant upgrades. Further investments will improve public address systems, enhance emergency communications infrastructure, and modernize access control systems, aiming to create a more secure environment for students and staff.

Roughly $29.6 million is allocated for instructional technology, ensuring students and educators have access to up-to-date tools for learning and teaching. This portion of the funding will support routine device refresh cycles for both students and staff, keeping pace with technological advancements. It also covers essential upgrades to the district’s servers and network infrastructure, critical for maintaining reliable connectivity and supporting digital learning platforms across all campuses.

The remaining $23.4 million targets crucial maintenance and facilities improvements. These projects include vital HVAC upgrades and roof replacements at various campuses, addressing aging infrastructure and ensuring comfortable, energy-efficient learning environments. The funds will also cover general plumbing, electrical, and structural repairs necessary for maintaining the integrity and longevity of school buildings. Additionally, this allocation provides for new scoreboards and athletic equipment, benefiting student athletes and supporting extracurricular programs.

Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null emphasized the district’s commitment to delivering on its promises to the community. “This move is all about delivering on our bond commitment, focusing on student safety, and ensuring responsible use of taxpayer dollars,” Dr. Null stated, underscoring the district’s dedication to both fiscal prudence and student well-being.

The unanimous approval by the Board of Trustees signals strong confidence in the proposed allocation and the district’s strategic plan for implementation. These projects will not be completed simultaneously but will be phased in over multiple years, allowing for efficient management and minimal disruption to school operations.
