Conroe ISD High School Baseball Tournament

**Houston-Area Baseball Teams Converge on Conroe for Annual Early-Season Tournament**

**CONROE, TX – February 22, 2024** – The diamonds at Dawson Memorial Park in Conroe are buzzing with early-season baseball action this week as Conroe ISD hosts its highly anticipated annual high school tournament. Ten teams from across the greater Houston area have converged on the premier local facility from Thursday, February 22nd, through Saturday, February 24th, for a crucial tune-up before district play officially begins.

While not a UIL playoff event, this tournament is an instrumental early-season fixture, offering players invaluable “reps” and providing coaches a critical platform to evaluate their rosters, experiment with lineups, and fine-tune strategies.

Conroe High School proudly serves as the host, with head coach J.J. Pierce eager to utilize the tournament’s competitive environment. They are joined by fellow Montgomery County programs Grand Oaks, Oak Ridge, and Caney Creek. Visiting teams making the trip include Cypress Lakes, Cypress Creek, Bryan, Splendora, and Kingwood Park, promising a diverse mix of talent and playing styles.

Play kicked off early Thursday, February 22nd, with games starting at 9:00 AM. Host Conroe High had a demanding opening day schedule, facing Cypress Lakes at 2:00 PM and then Bryan at 4:30 PM. Coach Pierce emphasized the tournament’s immense value for his relatively younger roster, particularly given recent weather disruptions—including unusually cold temperatures and intermittent rain—which have impacted practice time. “This is a tremendous opportunity for us to see numerous pitchers in game situations and ensure everyone gets crucial playing time against quality opponents,” Pierce stated, highlighting the importance of building depth early on.

Grand Oaks High School, under the guidance of Coach Andy McWilliam, also plans to leverage the tournament to sharpen their skills. Bringing an experienced core, the Grizzlies are focused on refining their fundamentals and execution before their district matchups commence. Grand Oaks was slated to begin their tournament schedule on Friday morning.

The tournament is structured into two pools of five teams each. Teams will compete in pool play throughout Thursday and Friday, with their performances determining their seeding for Saturday’s championship and consolation games. This format guarantees multiple competitive games for all participating squads.

Spectators are welcome to attend all games at Dawson Memorial Park, located at 1521 N. Frazier St, Conroe, TX 77301. General admission is typically charged at the gate. Attendees are strongly advised to keep a close eye on the weather forecast, as early-season tournaments in Texas can often be impacted by unpredictable conditions. Any schedule changes or updates due to weather will likely be communicated via the Conroe ISD Athletics social media channels or individual school athletic websites.

This annual gathering not only provides a competitive early-season test but also fosters camaraderie among Houston-area high school baseball programs, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead. For updated schedules and results, please check the respective school athletic department websites or local sports media outlets.
