Conroe ISD Trustee: 20 Applicants, Jan 13 Mtg

**Conroe ISD Trustee Vacancy Draws Strong Field of 20 Applicants; Special Meeting Set for Jan. 13**

CONROE, TX – Conroe Independent School District (CISD) has received 20 applications from community members seeking to fill a recently vacated trustee position, the district confirmed Monday. The application period closed on Sunday, January 7, at 4:30 p.m., yielding what district officials describe as a “strong pool of candidates.”

The Conroe ISD Board of Trustees is scheduled to hold a special meeting on Saturday, January 13, at 9:00 a.m. at the CISD Boardroom, located at 3200 West Davis Street, Conroe. The primary purpose of this meeting is to review the submitted applications. Discussions among trustees are expected, and the board may potentially appoint an individual to the Place 2 position during this session. The meeting agenda and supporting documents will be made available to the public on the district’s website in the days leading up to the meeting.

The vacancy arose following the resignation of Trustee Dr. Datta Barua, who previously held the Place 2 position. Dr. Barua announced his resignation effective December 31, citing personal reasons. His departure left a critical seat open on the seven-member board responsible for governing one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas.

The individual appointed to fill this position will serve an interim term until the next uniform election in November 2026. At that time, voters will elect a candidate to serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which concludes in May 2028.

“We are very pleased with the significant interest shown by our community members in serving on the Conroe ISD Board,” said Dr. Susan Rodriguez, Board President. “The number and quality of applications reflect a deep commitment to our students, staff, and the future of our district. We look forward to a thorough review process as we seek to appoint the best candidate to help guide Conroe ISD forward.”

Conroe ISD, serving over 72,000 students across 67 campuses, faces ongoing challenges and opportunities related to rapid population growth, student achievement, and resource management. The new trustee will step into an active role overseeing a budget exceeding $800 million and addressing key issues impacting the district’s diverse student body and a community of more than 200,000 residents within Montgomery County.

The Jan. 13 special meeting is open to the public. Further details regarding the agenda and any potential public comment opportunities will be posted on the Conroe ISD website at [ConroeISD.net](https://www.conroeisd.net) under the Board of Trustees section.
