**Conroe Stage Embraces Inclusivity with Triumphant Launch of “Players with Purpose” Program**

Conroe, TX – The Players Theatre Company has ushered in a new era of inclusive performing arts with the successful launch of its “Players with Purpose” program, culminating in two heartwarming performances of “Winnie-the-Pooh KIDS” on June 15th and 16th at the historic Owen Theatre. This groundbreaking initiative is designed to bring individuals with special needs onto the stage, fostering creativity, confidence, and community alongside their peer mentors.

The “Players with Purpose” program, a vision championed and brought to life by producer Laura Bell, has been a year-and-a-half in the making. Bell’s dedication to creating accessible theatrical opportunities for all members of the community has finally reached fruition, offering a unique platform for special needs actors to shine in the spotlight.

“Seeing ‘Players with Purpose’ go from an idea to a vibrant reality on the Owen Theatre stage has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career,” said Bell. “Our goal was to create a truly welcoming and supportive environment where every individual, regardless of their abilities, could experience the magic of theatre. The joy, the camaraderie, and the incredible talent we witnessed from our cast in ‘Winnie-the-Pooh KIDS’ surpassed all expectations.”

Auditions for the inaugural production of “Winnie-the-Pooh KIDS” were held on April 27th, drawing an enthusiastic group of aspiring actors and mentors. Rehearsals, which began on May 6th, transformed the cast into a cohesive and supportive ensemble under the expert guidance of director Katie Kelly.

“Directing ‘Winnie-the-Pooh KIDS’ for ‘Players with Purpose’ was an absolute honor,” stated Kelly. “The energy in rehearsals was infectious. Our special needs actors brought such genuine enthusiasm and unique perspectives to their roles, and our peer mentors demonstrated incredible compassion and leadership. It was a beautiful collaboration that truly highlighted the power of acceptance and teamwork.”

The production featured a delightful cast, including Melanie Young in the titular role of Pooh and her sister Sarah Young as Christopher Robin. The program intentionally selects manageable scripts, such as “Winnie-the-Pooh KIDS,” to ensure a positive, enriching, and accessible experience for all involved, allowing the special needs actors to flourish alongside their mainstream peers.

The performances on Saturday, June 15th, and Sunday, June 16th, held at the Owen Theatre, located at 225 Metcalf St. in downtown Conroe, were met with enthusiastic applause and standing ovations from appreciative audiences. Family members, friends, and community supporters filled the seats, celebrating a significant step forward for inclusivity in the local arts scene.

“This program is more than just putting on a show; it’s about building bridges, fostering empathy, and demonstrating that theatre truly is for everyone,” added Bell. “We’ve seen our actors grow in confidence, make new friends, and experience the profound sense of accomplishment that comes with live performance. The support from the Conroe community has been incredible, and we’re eager to continue expanding this program.”

The Players Theatre Company plans to make “Players with Purpose” an ongoing component of its programming, with future productions and workshops already being envisioned. The success of “Winnie-the-Pooh KIDS” serves as a powerful testament to the program’s vital role in enriching lives and strengthening the fabric of the Conroe community.
