Conroe Shooter Gets 10 Years for Pub Assault

**Conroe Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Shooting at The Woodlands Pub**

THE WOODLANDS, TX – A Conroe man will serve a decade in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a chaotic early morning shooting at The Goose’s Acre Pub in The Woodlands in October 2022. Christopher Lance Trakel, 33, was handed a 10-year prison sentence on Monday, April 29, in the 435th state District Court.

The sentencing, presided over by Judge Lisa Michalk, came as part of a negotiated plea agreement. Trakel pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony that carries a potential sentence of 2 to 20 years in prison.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the popular Irish pub located along The Woodlands Waterway. According to authorities, an argument that began inside the establishment escalated outside, where Trakel discharged a firearm, striking three individuals. Two men were shot in the leg, and one woman sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. All victims survived their injuries.

Surveillance video from the scene reportedly showed Trakel firing multiple shots during the altercation. Law enforcement, including deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, responded quickly to the scene. Through rapid investigation and witness accounts, Trakel was identified and located a short time later at a nearby hotel, the Hyatt Centric. He was arrested, and a 9mm handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, was recovered during his apprehension.

“This sentencing reflects the seriousness of using a deadly weapon in a public place and causing harm to innocent people,” said a representative from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted the case. “While a plea agreement was reached, the 10-year prison term ensures accountability for Trakel’s violent actions and sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in our community.”

Trakel will serve his sentence with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The Goose’s Acre Pub, a prominent establishment in The Woodlands Market Street area, resumed normal operations shortly after the incident.
