Conroe Worker Rescued from 40-Foot Scaffold

CONROE, TX – A construction worker was safely rescued Thursday morning after becoming stranded approximately 40 feet high on a scaffold at the Grand Central Park office building job site. The Conroe Fire Department performed a swift high-angle operation, bringing the individual safely back to ground level.

Emergency services received the call around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, reporting a worker stuck on a “swingset-type” scaffold at the construction site located at 2300 N. Loop 336. The incident unfolded at the future site of a new office building within the rapidly expanding Grand Central Park development.

The Conroe Fire Department quickly dispatched their Quint 1 ladder truck to the scene. Firefighters meticulously worked to reach the trapped individual, who was unable to descend from the elevated platform. Conroe Fire Marshal Steve Sharum confirmed the worker was “pretty shaken up but otherwise unharmed” by the ordeal, which could have had far more serious consequences.

The rescue operation was completed in approximately 30 minutes, with the worker safely back on solid ground by noon. EMS personnel were on hand immediately after his retrieval to assess his condition. The exact cause of why the worker became stranded on the scaffold was not immediately released.

The Grand Central Park office building is part of a significant mixed-use development by Johnson Development, a master-planned community that continues to grow with commercial and residential components just north of The Woodlands. Construction sites, by their nature, involve inherent risks, and incidents involving elevated platforms like scaffolding often prompt reviews by safety agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), to ensure compliance with workplace safety standards.

The Conroe Fire Department’s rapid deployment and successful execution of the high-angle rescue underscore their specialized training and readiness for complex emergencies within the community. The timely response from local emergency services ensured a safe resolution to the precarious situation.
