Conroe’s New Safe Harbor Streamlines Child Victim Aid

Children’s Safe Harbor Unveils State-of-the-Art $12 Million Facility in Conroe, Dramatically Expanding Aid for Child Abuse Victims

CONROE, TX – Children’s Safe Harbor officially opened the doors to its new 35,000-square-foot facility in Conroe in January 2026, marking a monumental expansion of services dedicated to child abuse victims in Montgomery County. Located at 1500 Wilson Road, this sprawling $12 million complex is a substantial upgrade from their previous 5,000-square-foot space, which had been in use since 2004 and had long struggled with overwhelming overcapacity.

This isn’t merely a larger building; it represents a pivotal shift towards a more integrated and trauma-informed approach to child advocacy. The cutting-edge center now brings critical investigative, medical, and support partners directly under one roof. On-site teams from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, various local law enforcement agencies, and Child Protective Services (CPS) are now housed within the facility.

“Our goal with this new facility was to completely reimagine the victim experience,” said Emily Davis, Executive Director of Children’s Safe Harbor. “By co-locating these essential services, we eliminate the need for child victims to travel to multiple locations, retelling their stories repeatedly. This streamlines the investigation, significantly reduces secondary trauma, and allows our children to focus on healing in a safe, supportive environment.”

The facility is designed to offer a full spectrum of critical services for child abuse victims in a single, child-friendly setting. These include forensic interviews conducted by specially trained professionals, thorough medical examinations, vital mental health services, and dedicated victim advocacy. This integrated model ensures that children and their non-offending caregivers receive comprehensive support from the moment they walk through the doors.

“The collaboration fostered by this new facility is invaluable,” commented Captain Mark Peterson of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “Having our investigators, the District Attorney’s team, and CPS directly alongside Children’s Safe Harbor staff means quicker response times, more coordinated efforts, and ultimately, a more effective path to justice for these vulnerable children.”

The ambitious project, first announced in February 2024, began with a generous donation of 10 acres of land by the Montgomery County Commissioners Court, a crucial first step that underscored the community’s commitment to protecting its youngest residents. Groundbreaking for the facility took place in September 2024, with construction commencing later that fall.

The total cost for the new facility stands at $12 million. While Children’s Safe Harbor has successfully raised an impressive $8.5 million by February 2026 through community donations, grants, and philanthropic support, they are still actively fundraising to secure the remaining $3.5 million needed to fully fund the new center and its expanded operational capabilities.

“This facility represents a significant investment in the future well-being of Montgomery County’s children,” stated Commissioner James Rodriguez. “The Commissioners Court was proud to contribute the land, knowing that this project would create a haven for those who need it most and strengthen our collective response to child abuse.”

With this dramatic expansion, Children’s Safe Harbor anticipates serving between 2,000 and 2,500 children annually. This marks a substantial increase from the 1,200 children they were previously able to assist in their overcrowded former location. The new capacity is vital as the demand for child advocacy services continues to grow within the rapidly expanding Montgomery County.

Community members interested in supporting Children’s Safe Harbor and helping them reach their fundraising goal for the remaining $3.5 million are encouraged to visit their website at www.childrenssafeharbor.org or call their administrative office at (936) 539-9529. Donations directly contribute to providing essential services and maintaining the state-of-the-art facility.

Children’s Safe Harbor is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe, child-friendly environment for children who are victims of abuse or neglect. They offer a comprehensive array of services including forensic interviews, medical examinations, mental health support, and victim advocacy, all in collaboration with law enforcement and Child Protective Services.
