Fatal Crash: Stolen Police SUV, Murder Charge

**Stolen Conroe ISD Tahoe Driver Charged with Murder After Deadly Pursuit Crash in Montgomery County**

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – A Conroe ISD police Tahoe, stolen earlier in the day and allegedly involved in an aggravated robbery, collided with a motorcycle Sunday evening, killing the rider and leading to a murder charge for the driver following a brief pursuit in Montgomery County.

The tragic incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at the intersection of FM 2920 and Gosling Road. Stephen Douglas Jones, 68, who was riding a motorcycle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities have identified the driver of the stolen SUV as 29-year-old Luis David Cobos. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Cobos had allegedly just committed an aggravated robbery at a Dollar Tree store prior to the fatal collision. The police Tahoe had been reported stolen from a Conroe ISD campus earlier that Sunday.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted the stolen police vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Cobos reportedly refused to yield, leading to a brief pursuit. The chase concluded moments later when Cobos’s vehicle collided with Jones’s motorcycle at the busy intersection.

Cobos was apprehended at the scene of the crash. Following the investigation into the sequence of events, he has been charged with murder, aggravated robbery, and evading arrest with a vehicle. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.

Conroe Independent School District confirmed on Monday that the vehicle involved in the crash was indeed one of their police SUVs that had been stolen. In a statement, the district expressed its condolences to the family of the victim and affirmed its cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation. The district did not immediately release details regarding the circumstances of the vehicle’s theft.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash and the preceding events. Officials have not yet released additional details about the pursuit’s duration or specifics of the aggravated robbery. Further information is expected as the investigation progresses and court proceedings commence.
