Grand Oaks High Student Stabbed, Suspect Charged

NEW CANEY, Texas — A student was stabbed by another student Tuesday morning at Grand Oaks High School, prompting an immediate campus lockdown and an ongoing investigation by local authorities. The incident, which occurred on May 7, reportedly stemmed from an argument that escalated between the two students.

According to preliminary reports from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and the New Caney Independent School District (NCISD) Police Department, the victim, whose identity has not been released due to privacy concerns, was transported to a local hospital. Officials have confirmed the victim is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect, also a student at Grand Oaks High School, was quickly detained on campus shortly after the incident. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has since charged the student with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, confirming a knife was used in the attack. Given the nature of the charges and the ages of those involved, further details regarding the legal proceedings are likely to be handled through the juvenile justice system.

Following the altercation, Grand Oaks High School immediately entered a “secure at” protocol, which restricts movement and secures all entry and exit points. This measure was taken to ensure the safety of all students and staff while law enforcement secured the scene. The protocol later transitioned to “secure for” the remainder of the school day, allowing classes to continue with heightened security measures in place.

New Caney ISD communicated directly with parents and guardians via district notifications, providing updates on the incident and the safety protocols implemented. The district also made support staff, including counselors, available to students and faculty who may have been impacted by the unsettling event. School officials emphasized their commitment to student safety and the well-being of the entire school community following the jarring incident.

The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the stabbing is ongoing, with both the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the New Caney ISD Police Department collaborating to gather all relevant information. Further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
