HLSR adopts new dress code for 2027

**Houston Rodeo Implements New Dress Code for 2027 Show, Citing Family-Friendly Focus**

HOUSTON – The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR), a cornerstone of Texas culture and a major annual event, is set to introduce a comprehensive new dress code policy beginning with its 2027 show. Approved by the HLSR Board of Directors in January 2026, the updated regulations are designed to reinforce a family-friendly atmosphere across all rodeo grounds.

The new policy, which takes effect for the 2027 event running from March 2nd to March 21st, will prohibit clothing deemed “improper, suggestive, or revealing.” This includes a ban on garments featuring profane, racist, or vulgar content, as well as items like thongs, pasties, and any sheer, transparent, or fishnet attire. Additionally, excessively baggy clothing or any apparel that exposes undergarments will not be permitted.

The updated guidelines will apply universally to everyone on the premises of NRG Park and all HLSR-utilized areas, including general visitors, dedicated volunteers, contractors, and even entertainers.

Chris Boleman, HLSR President and CEO, articulated the rationale behind the proactive measure. “Our primary goal is to maintain the traditional, wholesome image of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,” Boleman stated. “This new dress code is a proactive step to ensure that everyone who visits our grounds feels comfortable and safe, making the rodeo experience welcoming for all ages.”

Enforcement will be a collective effort. HLSR staff, security personnel, and volunteers will be empowered to deny entry or request the removal of any individual found to be in violation of the dress code. The policy also outlines the potential for further disciplinary actions, including bans from future events, for repeat offenders or those committing serious violations.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the largest annual events in Texas, attracting millions of visitors and playing a crucial role in supporting youth education through scholarships and promoting Western heritage. The implementation of a formal dress code aligns with efforts seen at other major family-oriented events and venues nationwide, aimed at cultivating a universally appropriate environment.

Attendees planning to visit the 2027 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and future events are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the full policy, which will be available on the official RodeoHouston website at www.rodeohouston.com/dresscode closer to the event date.
