**Conroe Hoppers Stage Fairytale Comeback, Secure MCSA 12U Baseball Championship**

**CONROE, TX – May 20, 2024** – The Conroe-based Hoppers, a 12U baseball team competing in the Montgomery County Sports Association (MCSA) playoffs, completed a remarkable underdog journey on May 18, capping off their season with an unexpected championship victory. From their start on March 4, the squad consistently defied expectations, culminating in a memorable title win against tough local competition.

Initially not considered frontrunners in the highly competitive MCSA 12U league, the Hoppers, guided by coaches Ben Whetstone, David Ziemba, Scott Dykstra, and Mike Hall, steadily built momentum throughout the spring. Their dedication paid off as they impressively finished their regular season with an 8-4 record, surprisingly claiming a first-place standing.

“We knew we had a talented group, but more importantly, we had a team with incredible heart,” said Head Coach Ben Whetstone. “From day one, our focus was on fundamental improvement and playing as a unit. To see them mature and come together like they did, especially after being underestimated early on, has been truly special.”

The Hoppers carried their newfound confidence into the MCSA playoffs, held at the MCSA fields in Conroe (www.mcsasports.org). Their playoff run began with a dominant 17-2 victory over the Magnolia Knights, showcasing their offensive power and defensive prowess. They then advanced to the semifinals, where they secured an 11-4 win against the formidable Conroe Lightning, setting the stage for a dramatic championship clash.

The championship game on May 18 pitted the Hoppers against the strong Conroe Crush. The tension was palpable as both teams battled for supremacy. Pitcher Jake Dykstra delivered a heroic performance on the mound, throwing a complete game and showcasing incredible composure under pressure, guiding his team to a narrow 5-3 lead.

The game’s defining moment arrived in the final inning with the bases loaded for the Conroe Crush. With the championship hanging in the balance, Michael Hall calmly secured a pop-up, making the crucial final out and sealing the improbable 5-3 victory for the Hoppers. The dugout erupted as players and coaches celebrated their hard-fought triumph.

“That play by Michael in the final inning was a testament to his focus and the collective determination of this team,” remarked Coach Scott Dykstra. “Jake was phenomenal all game, keeping us in it, and every single player contributed to this win. It was a true team effort from start to finish.”

The championship roster for the Hoppers included: Jaxon Ziemba, Landon Whetstone, Cade Smith, Ethan Reimer, Hudson Williams, Brady Dykstra, Andrew Dykstra, Caleb Williams, Brody Miller, and Jake Dykstra, alongside Michael Hall. Each player played a vital role in what will be remembered as a memorable and unexpected title run in Montgomery County youth baseball.
