**Houston Airports to Revolutionize Security with New Self-Service “eGate” System by Early 2026**

HOUSTON – Travelers passing through Houston’s major airports are poised for a significant upgrade in their security checkpoint experience, as a cutting-edge, self-service system dubbed “eGate” is set for full implementation by early 2026. The new technology, developed by Houston-based company Amorphyx, promises to drastically reduce wait times and streamline the security process at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).

The “eGate” system utilizes what Amorphyx describes as “quantum tunneling composites” to create a more efficient and largely automated security identity verification process. Passengers will be able to self-scan their identification, such as a passport or driver’s license, along with a fingerprint. This largely self-service approach is designed to significantly reduce direct interaction with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents during the initial ID check, allowing them to focus on other critical security functions. There is also a possibility of facial recognition technology being integrated into the system down the line, further enhancing its capabilities.

“This is a game-changer for our millions of annual passengers,” said Mario Diaz, Director of Houston Airports, in a statement. “As travel demand continues to surge, we are committed to investing in innovative solutions that not only enhance security but also significantly improve the overall passenger experience. ‘eGate’ represents a leap forward in making our checkpoints smoother and faster.”

The journey to full implementation will begin much sooner, with a pilot program slated to launch in early 2024. This initial phase will allow Houston Airports and the TSA to rigorously test the system’s effectiveness, gather crucial feedback, and iron out any operational kinks before a broader rollout.

The primary goal of the “eGate” system is to slash wait times, make security checkpoints more efficient, and optimize the deployment of TSA personnel. By automating the routine identity verification process, TSA officers can be redeployed to areas where their expertise is most critical, such as baggage screening and physical pat-downs, ultimately enhancing overall airport security.

“The TSA is continuously exploring new technologies to enhance security effectiveness and efficiency,” a TSA spokesperson added. “Automated systems like ‘eGate’ hold the potential to free up our dedicated officers to concentrate on high-value tasks, ensuring the safety of all travelers while maintaining a steady flow through our checkpoints.”

This substantial upgrade comes courtesy of a $3 million contract awarded to Amorphyx, marking a significant investment by Houston Airports in modernizing the air travel experience. The fact that the innovative technology is developed by a local Houston company further underscores the city’s role as a hub for innovation.
