Houston, TX — The sweet aroma of slow-smoked meats will soon blanket NRG Park as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) officially ignites its annual festivities with the much-anticipated World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. This three-day culinary showdown, renowned for its serious smoke and fierce competition, is set to run from Thursday, March 5, through Saturday, March 7, 2025, promising a sizzling start to the Rodeo season.

Over 250 teams, comprising both seasoned pitmasters and passionate amateur cooks, will converge at NRG Park, located at 1 NRG Park, Houston. These dedicated teams will be battling it out to claim the coveted Grand Champion titles across various categories, including the fiercely contested Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, and specialty categories that highlight the diverse flavors of Texas barbecue. Judging takes place behind the scenes, with experts evaluating each entry for taste, tenderness, and appearance, culminating in the announcement of the champions on Saturday evening.

While many of the individual team tents are invitation-only affairs, operating as private parties for sponsors and guests, the public is warmly invited to soak in the electric atmosphere. Attendees can immerse themselves in the cookoff buzz by visiting accessible areas such as The Garden, the Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon, and the Chuck Wagon.
