Jesus Christ Superstar at Crighton Theatre

**Conroe’s Crighton Theatre Presents Haunting ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Production**

CONROE, TX – The historic Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe is currently hosting The Players Theatre Company’s dramatic rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s iconic rock opera, “Jesus Christ Superstar.” The powerful musical continues its run through Saturday, March 16th, offering audiences a thought-provoking exploration of the final week of Jesus’s life.

Directed by Joe Viser, who also steps into the pivotal role of Pontius Pilate, this production promises a unique lens on the biblical narrative. Viser’s dual role as both director and a central character, according to company statements, allows for a deeply integrated vision, bringing nuanced insight to the complex political and personal struggles depicted in the show. The narrative primarily unfolds through the eyes of Judas Iscariot, offering a humanizing and at times controversial perspective on faith, betrayal, and sacrifice.

Music Director Adam Isbell leads the charge in bringing Lloyd Webber’s beloved and challenging score to life. Known for its electrifying rock anthems, poignant ballads, and intricate harmonies, the music is a cornerstone of the “Jesus Christ Superstar” experience, driving the emotional arc of the story.

The cast features a roster of talented local performers. Andrew Hollinger takes on the challenging role of Jesus, portraying the Messiah’s final days with intensity and vulnerability. Brandon Jerkins embodies the complex and conflicted Judas, whose internal struggle is central to the opera. Melody Montez delivers a compelling performance as Mary Magdalene, offering moments of tenderness and introspection amidst the escalating tension. Supporting roles include Timothy Eggert as the flamboyant King Herod, Jeff Baldwin as the authoritative Caiaphas, Michael Marlin as Annas, Tyler Brundidge as Peter, and Cameron Ball as Simon.

The Crighton Theatre, a cornerstone of Conroe’s cultural heritage since its opening in 1935, provides a fittingly grand and intimate setting for such an epic production. As the resident company, The Players Theatre Company is renowned for bringing high-quality theatrical experiences to the Conroe community, and “Jesus Christ Superstar” is a testament to their commitment to diverse and impactful storytelling.

Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Remaining dates for this limited engagement include March 8, 9, 10, 15, and 16.
