LCARW Briefed on Key Global & US Issues by Ex-WH Aide

Members of the Lake Conroe Area Republican Women, known as LCARW, received a comprehensive briefing on current global and domestic challenges at their recent monthly meeting. The event took place at the Walden Yacht Club on Lake Conroe, featuring Dr. Steven Yates, a former speechwriter for President George H.W. Bush, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Yates, who previously addressed the group in May 2023, offered his insights on the current geopolitical and national landscape.

Dr. Yates emphasized the volatile nature of the global environment, highlighting conflict zones such as Gaza, Ukraine, Taiwan, and the Red Sea. He described these conflicts as interconnected, warning of a potential “domino effect” that directly impacts the United States. Yates further detailed China’s expanding influence through its Belt and Road Initiative and naval buildup, Russia’s continued aggression, and Iran’s financial support of terrorist organizations. He suggested a perceived decline in U.S. leadership on the international stage amidst these developments.

Shifting to domestic concerns, Dr. Yates addressed critical issues facing the nation. He cited the national debt, which currently stands at $34 trillion. Regarding inflation, he claimed the country has experienced an additional $20 trillion in debt and a 20 percent inflation increase since January 2020, under the current presidential administration. Immigration was another focal point, with Yates stating that approximately 2 million undocumented immigrants reside in Texas alone, and about 7.5 million across the U.S., during the current administration.

Dr. Yates concluded his address by stressing the profound significance of the upcoming November election, framing it as crucial for guiding the country through what he termed potentially “dark times” if current trends persist.

LCARW, led by President Brenda Storseth, is dedicated to supporting conservative values and the election of Republican candidates. The organization convenes on the third Wednesday of each month at 11:30 AM, typically at the Walden Yacht Club. Their next scheduled meeting, on June 19th, will feature State Representative Steve Toth as the guest speaker.
